Be a Part of #GivingTuesday
York Catholic will be participating in this year's #GivingTuesday on November 28!  In case you haven't heard, the goal of #GivingTuesday is to create a global day of giving back, which celebrates generosity and kindness.  YC students give back to the residents of Country Meadows Retirement Community every other week by spending time with them and playing games.  It's this long-term service commitment that we recognize on a day like #GivingTuesday.

York Catholic has a goal of raising $15,000 and we really hope you'll be a part of reaching that goal!  Please give or give again.  All gifts are appreciated no matter the amount.  All of the donations received will go towards the 2017-2018 York Catholic Fund.

We hope you're able to join the millions who are making #GivingTuesday the huge success that it is nationwide.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

We are thankful for many things at York Catholic.  Our students are also very generous when it comes to helping others.   To date, students have collected over $1,700 to support Hurricane Relief and the Pregnancy & Family Resource Center.  The November mission collection will be our annual food contribution to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.   Each homeroom is asked to donate a turkey and canned goods for a Thanksgiving dinner to the Food Pantry.

This year, the Food Pantry will be partnering with LifePath Ministries to provide 1,700 dinners to our community.  Turkeys of all sizes are needed, as are gift cards to various grocery stores.  A list of suggested food items for a Thanksgiving dinner is given below.  Items should be stored in each homeroom until the pick-up date on Friday, November 10.  Please do not send turkeys to school prior to that date.

Suggestions for donated items for a Thanksgiving dinner:
            turkey gravy
            boxed stuffing
            instant mashed potatoes
            boxed desserts
canned vegetables:  peas, carrots, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes
            cranberry sauce
            canned fruit
            Jell-o

Thank you for helping to make a family's Thanksgiving dinner a special one this year.
Order Your Yearbook Now!
Even though the 2018 color yearbooks are not distributed until May, NOW is the time to place your order for a book.  Extra yearbooks are not available in May.  Only what is ordered is delivered to YC for distribution.  To make yearbook ordering easier, York Catholic is participating in the Smart Pay sales management program offered through Taylor Publishing. Smart Pay handles the order taking and payments allowing the yearbook advisor and staff additional time to produce the best yearbook ever.

Order NOW!  Simply click here or call the Smart Pay ordering line at 1-800-853-1337.

Special Note for Parents of Seniors:
There will be a special section of the 2018 yearbook reserved only for parents of seniors to send a message to their senior son or daughter.  It is a great keepsake and a wonderful way to congratulate your child for all of their years of hard work.  The rectangular space costs $20 and can be in full color with a total of 30 words and 1 picture.  Be sure to only submit pictures that you do not need replaced.  Photos should be in good condition and printed on photo paper.  Please click here for the Senior Form and return it with your payment (checks made payable to York Catholic High School) to Mrs. Nagley no later than Tuesday, November 21.
Sign Up for Parent/Teacher Conferences Now
Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 9, from 3:30-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm.  We encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity to talk with teachers about their student's progress or course of study.  To schedule conferences, click here.  If you have difficulty navigating the website or find that a teacher's schedule is full, please contact Kelsey Kman at [email protected] and she will be happy to assist.  We recommend you schedule without delay as conference slots will fill quickly.
Send Us Your Video
"You Belong at York Catholic" is the theme being used in our marketing to attract new students. We need you to be a part of it!  We're looking for you to share your experience with future YC families and it won't take a lot of your time.

Send us a 20-second (maximum) video that starts with "You Belong at York Catholic because..."  For example, Ms. Hoffman recorded hers and she said, "You Belong at York Catholic because you'll find a great support system that becomes your extended family."  The best videos will be used in upcoming social media posts.

Send videos to [email protected] by November 15. Thanks for your help!
Spirit Shirt Friday

Tomorrow (Friday, November 3) is Spirit Shirt Friday.  Students may pay $1 in homeroom and wear their favorite YC spirit shirt in place of their uniform shirt. Students still must wear the standard uniform pants or skirt.  All money collected from this fundraiser goes toward the YC Technology Fund.
12th Grade Retreat

The senior class will attend an overnight retreat November 5-6 at the Malvern Retreat Center. This is a great opportunity for students to bond with classmates, spend time in prayer, and truly "retreat" from school and the daily stresses of life.  The retreat will begin Sunday at 11:45 AM with students returning at approximately 4:30 PM Monday to YC.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Stacey White, Director of Spiritual Life, at 717-846-8871 x236 or [email protected].
Picture Re-takes
Students who were absent on Picture Day or those who wish to have their picture re-taken, should report to the auditorium lobby Tuesday, November 14, at 8:30 AM. Students requesting a re-take should bring their original photo package. There is no charge to have pictures taken or re-taken for your yearbook portrait. If you wish to purchase additional photos, place orders online by going to  www.mylifetouch.com   PRIOR to November 14 and using Picture Day ID# LT217798Q1.

In addition to the portrait photos, Lifetouch also takes candid action shots at sporting events, music events, and school events throughout the school year that are available for purchase.  These photos are posted on the YC website under Current Students-Resources-Photos.

If there is ever an error with your photo order, please contact Lifetouch at 1-800-244-4373.  Their Customer Service Department will be best equipped to correct your order or answer your questions.

Winter Sports
Paperwork
Students wishing to participate in athletics must submit the following paperwork:
Students MUST submit the paperwork to the athletic director no later than Wednesday, November 8, at 3 PM if they have not already done so for the year.

If a student doesn't submit the paperwork by the deadline, he or she will not be permitted to practice the first day of the season.  For some sports, this could mean the student will not make the team.  Please click here or visit the General Information page of the Athletics section of the website for the proper Physical & Agreement forms.  Contact Mr. Bankos to learn if a valid ImPACT test is on file.

Practices Begin
All winter sports teams will begin practices Friday, November 17.  Check with the team coach or Mr. Bankos for exact times and locations.
Athletic Association Meeting
All parents of York Catholic student-athletes are members of the YC Athletic Association. Members work to raise needed funds for the YC athletic programs and serve as volunteers in various capacities at sporting events.  All levels of involvement are needed.  Please contact President Mark Andrasi at [email protected]   to let him know your area of interest. Please plan on attending the Athletic Association meeting Monday, November 6, at 6:30 PM at YC.
