Tic
Tac Toe, three in a row! This monthly newsletter seems to be a
habit now. A monthly newsletter has been an EOR
goal for the last two years, and, like a lot of other goals we've
set, this is being achieved...NOW.
After 2.5 years of operation, it's becoming easier for
EOR to set goals and achieve them. Our base of
support grows larger by the day, we're hosting three major
fundraising events annually, as well as several smaller ones, and
our communication with our various partners is more streamlined, so
we can achieve more, more quickly for the hundreds of kids we
serve.
This time last year, you may have received an annual fund letter
from us, requesting a donation. You won't receive a letter like
that this year, NOT because we've achieved all of our goals and
have decided to call it a day, but because we know there are better
ways to spend the money than to mail letters. You read us in
several places--this newsletter, the blog, facebook, you don't
really need a letter to remind you that EOR is
building care centers, funding feeding programs, buying beds, and
giving thousands access to clean water because of your ongoing
support.
Over the next two weeks, the board of EOR will
work hard to highlight OUR (that's the royal our!) many
accomplishments. At the end of the period, we'll ask you to
remember EOR in your year-end giving so we can
continue to buy things that make us happiest, like building
materials, library books, medical supplies and swingsets. You'll
be welcome to write a check or click on a 'DONATE NOW' link
to share your support via credit card.
I know you appreciate all that EOR has
accomplished. I'm confident that you'll want to be included in our
future endeavors too.
With incredible gratitude for each and every one of you who
comprise Ethiopian Orphan Relief.
Ahmesegenallo,
Paige

Donor
Spotlight |
|
One of our
goals at EOR is to introduce you to other donors
who are committed to orphans in Ethiopia. While many of our
supporters are proud parents of an Ethiopian child, donors come
from all walks of life, and through all sorts of connections.
Today I am pleased to introduce you to Molly, who lives in
Oregon.
How did you become involved with EOR? Are you an adoptive
parent?
I went to high school with Chris Pasion, we ended up being
neighbors and I got to know his amazing wife Kim and son Anthony. A
few years later they brought home Annie Rose and I fell in love
with her and her story! No one I know has a bigger heart than Kim
and when she told me about EOR I knew it was going
to be a success. Her dedication, passion and commitment to this
organization always inspire me, the work she and her team are doing
not only warms hearts - it saves lives.
How do you find ways to give?
Oh how I aspire to give my time! My goal is more giving
through
volunteering but at this point in my life with a husband, two kids,
a full time job, and until very recently the care of an elderly
parent, my giving has mainly been through financial contributions.
The EOR auction is one of the dates we ink on the
calendar as soon as we hear about it! It's a great gathering of
people who all want to support and grow EOR.
Why is being part of EOR important to you?
EOR is an immeasurable resource to those children
that have not had the blessing of adoption. Keeping their most
basic needs met is a huge gift, something that we often take for
granted. The opportunity for these children to have a safe haven
and an education will give them the tools
they deserve to succeed.
Are you part of the leisure class aka fabulously wealthy?
How can you afford to give?
I am far from wealthy! That said it is an easy decision to give
when I think of how fortunate my family is and how little these
kids have in their lives, no family, no home, no material goods, no
education. There is no reason that they shouldn't have all the
opportunities that other kids in the world have. So, if I am the
least bit capable of helping them, I am going to.
Thank you so much, Molly, for all that you do for Ethiopian
Orphan Relief. We couldn't do it without YOU!

Give
Love! |

Nearly 4 years ago, a beautiful girl with beautiful curls was
placed in my arms, and from that moment forward, I began my quest
to find terrific hair care products to style her lovely little
locks. Lots of adoptive parents go on similar quests for hair care
goodness, but Jill took her journey a step further. Not satisfied
by the products she found on the market, she created her own, and
Give All For Love was born!
Give All For Love sells all natural hair and skin care
products. In addition, Give All For Love donates a
portion of each sale to an Ethiopian focused charity of your
choice. Ethiopian Orphan Relief is thrilled to be
in included in this group of terrific organizations.
In need of some new hair care products for your little cutie?
Looking for a small gift for Hanukkah or Christmas? Why not do a
little shopping with Give All to Love. You'll be so glad
you did, and so will we!

Update--Children's Heaven |
|
Lucky Me! I got in touch with
Hanna Fanta, the director of Children's Heaven to get a
status update. You may remember that a year ago,
EOR (thanks to your generous support) secured a
new building and paid the rent for 4 years so that Children's
Heaven could expand its programming. 6 months later, the proceeds
from the Lights of Hope 'Raise the Paddle' special appeal created a
daily feeding program for all of the girls who receive care through
Children's Heaven. While I wanted to fly to Addis to report on
Children's Heaven firsthand, I spoke with
Hanna via email instead and also received a glowing firsthand
report from Kimberly Heye, EOR's Ethiopian liason. A longer report
from Hanna, including statements from some of her lovely girls (and
many more pictures!) will be posted on our blog in the next few
days.
How have things changed at Children's Heaven since Ethiopian Orphan
Relief got involved?
Things
at Children's Heaven are much better now. Since our partnership
with EOR, Children's Heaven, on top of being free
of worrisome life of how we could come up with the rent money every
month, we are encouraged and able to deliver our services to
orphans in an effective way. Our new facility which is funded by
EOR has enabled our services to the girls more
efficient. The girls now have a place to do different activities
in a safe setting with no concern of heat or rain.
They
also have a library, though it is not fully equipped, for them to
sit down and read or write. In addition, besides feeding program
and other activities, the girls take shower every Saturday at CH
facility, which they look forward to it every Saturday and are
happy for this opportunity for most of them does not have access
for shower.
What
would you like EOR's supporters to know about Children's Heaven and
the girls you serve?
First
of all, we appreciate your hard work and caring for Ethiopian
Orphans in general and orphans at CH in particular. Also, despite
world's shaking economy please know that you are appreciated by all
of us for your sacrificial input to our programs.
On
top of trying to reach the girls on our waiting list which are now
over 200, and the number is increasing every day, my heart also
goes out for their extended family. Most of our girls have lost
their dads and live with their sick moms. It is hard to see sick
mom's every day challenge of trying to take care of their families
as well as see the girls worry and withdraw when their mom's get
sick fearing they might also lose their moms.
To
help mom's preserve their health and protect them from sun by going
long distance as well as doing labor work, Children's Heaven has
recently included in our Project Proposal an income generating
program for our extended parents such as candle, soap, peanut
butter production as well as hand craft training of weaving,
spinning, knitting, embroidery and sewing.
Due
to poor standard of education in the Government schools, we also
have included in our current programs access to quality education
for our girls by admitting them to public schools.
How is the feeding program changing things?
Feeding program is going very effectively. We are all encouraged
by nutritious meal program which is also funded by
EOR and the girls are very happy and blessed by
it. It has positively affected their health, their education as
well as their self image. |

Gena |

Christmas in
Ethiopia is called Gena
and it's celebrated on January 7th. Here at EOR,
we're gathering gifts to put into backpacks for the children of
Children's Heaven & FOVC (Friends of Orphans & Vulnerable
Children). Through "ProjectGena2010" your generosity
will brighten an orphan's life. EOR provides the
backpacks~~ can you help us fill them?
Would you like to
give to a boy or a girl? Email
kim@ethiopianorphanrelief.org to make plans to
shop for a specific child. Too busy to shop for all the special
someones on your personal gift list? A backpack for an Ethiopian
child makes a wonderful gift for others. For a donation of
15.00 we'll shop for you AND
send a special card to the honoree of your choice. A personalized
letter or photo makes a wonderful addition to any backpack - we
welcome yours. We can't wait to share a photo of the children
receiving their gifts, please include your address with your
donation so we can send you one too. To see a video of Project
Gena click here.
With just a few weeks left before the big Project Gena bag stuffing
party at Kim Pasion's house, I'm pleased to report that nearly
every child has been sponsored and new requests to help continue to
roll in!
It isn't too late to join the fun if you'd still like to fill a
bag. YOU are all terrific!
