Dear
Neighbors,
Autumn
has come to the 44th Ward and the leaves are falling from our
trees. I want to remind neighbors to please rake the leaves from
the parkways and bag them properly (do not rake leaves into the
street). You can dispose of your yard waste by putting the bag
next to your blue cart to be picked up with the recycling. You can
also help prevent street flooding by cleaning the leaves off the
top of the sewer grates.
Halloween is just around the corner. You can find the many fun and
spooky events in the community listed later in this
newsletter.
The new Jewel-Osco at 3630 N. Southport is officially open for
business! Please stop by to check out what the new
state-of-the-art grocery store has to offer. You can see pictures
from the ribbon cutting event by clicking
here.
The Chicago Department of Public Health will be administering flu
shots in the 44th Ward on Tuesday, October 26 at the Britton Budd
Apartments - 501 W. Surf - from 10am - 1pm. Please bring your
Medicare card if you have one.
You can continue to Early Vote for the Statewide Election at the
Merlo Library Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Early
Voting closes on October 28th.
Cast your vote for
Chicago's official Christmas tree for Daley Plaza by clicking here.
Voting continues through Sunday, October 24th.
Sincerely,
Alderman Tom Tunney

Alert - Arson Arrest
Over the past few weeks there have been a number of fires involving
trash containers in our area. In some of these incidents fences and
garages were ignited from the flames of the trash fire and property
was damaged. These incidents have been a concern to the residents
of our area and have become a priority problem to the police as
well.
On October 19 in the early morning hours, 19th district police
officers were able to arrest the offender. The investigation into
the incidents has resulted in an area resident being charged with
four felony counts of arson and three misdemeanor counts of
criminal damage to property. The person arrested was Richard Sikora
of the 3400 Block of Claremont. He has been transported to Central
Bond court where a judge will set his bond and assign a future
court date.
19th District Police Detectives continue to investigate previous
fire incidents in our area and evidence recovered from the arrestee
may result inadditional charges at a future date. Police are also
in contact with the State's Attorney's Office of Community Justice
in an attempt to ensure this case receives the special attention it
deserves.
Thank you to the 19th District Police for all of their hard
work.

Wilton
Sewer Lining Project
Work has begun on the following locations:
Wilton - Addison to Grace
Daily works starts at 7:00am and will end at 7:00pm and is expected
to be completed by the end of October.
This project will rehabilitate the existing sewer and catch basin
drain pipes in the area without the conventional digging
method. This will help mimimize street cave-ins due to sewer
collapses. In addition, it will bring better drainage to the area
and alleviate flooding during heavy rain.
During the sewer lining work, it will be necessary to close lanes
of these streets to ensure public safety during work hours.
Equipment and materials will be on the street during the work. To
prevent odors in your home, please pour two to three cups of water
into each basement floor drain. During the sewer lining work,
please restrict your water usage as much as possible. A City
Engineer will be on site during the work to answer any questions
from the residents.
Sewer lining is not complete until damaged sidewalks,
parkways and streets have been repaired.
