Dear Neighbors,

Last Friday, September 16th, I attended the court hearing for the individual charged in the July 3rd Halsted St. stabbing.  He remains in police custody and we will continue to monitor the case.  I have also attended additional court hearings for the Belmont stabbing and prostitution in our neighborhood, including a sting operation by 19th District officers near the Belmont station.  I was surrounded by court advocates and our presence sent a strong message to the judge:  our community cares about the outcome of these cases.  If you are interested in becoming a Court Advocate, please click here for more information.

Autumn is just around the corner and the leaves are falling from our trees. I want to remind neighbors to please rake the leaves from the parkways and bag them properly (do not rake leaves into the street). You can dispose of your yard waste by putting the bag next to your blue cart to be picked up with the recycling. You can also help prevent street flooding by cleaning the leaves off the top of the sewer grates.

Our 9th Annual Senior Picnic was another smashing success.  Weather was a little brisk but it was beautiful outside.  We ate burgers and hot dogs and boogied to the music of the Ron Smolen Orchestra.  Thank you to all my volunteers, Central Lakeview Merchants, the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce, Tai's Til Four, Vince Rizzo, Kevin Killerman, the Chicago Cubs, Walgreens for their gift bags, John Barleycorn and staff for providing the delicious food, Brookdale for dessert and the many local businesses who provided our seniors with raffle prizes.  You can see photos and video from the picnic by clicking here

Please note there will be parking restrictions again this weekend on both Halsted (Belmont to Buckingham) and Belmont (Halsted to Clark) from 12:00 Midnight to 5:00am. You can read my statement and find more information on the pilot program by clicking here

Sincerely,

Alderman Tom Tunney
