Blaine Organic Garden
Chicago's official motto is urbs in horto - city in a garden. Lakeview's own Blaine School community is exemplifying 'urbs in horto' by planting the new Blaine Organic Garden, nicknamed The BOG. The Blaine Organic Garden Planning Committee formed in January of 2012 as an off-shoot of the Green Team. One of the Green Team's goals was to create an outdoor space on Blaine's property that could be used throughout the curriculum at all grade levels.
The Blaine Garden Team needs the support of our community to help fulfill the vision. See the plans, understand the goals, and make a huge difference either in providing your time, monetary or in-kind donations. Together, we can transform the corner of Grace and Southport into an urban oasis.

Future Leaders Exchange Host Home Program
Expose your family to a new culture and new language by hosting a student for the 2012-2013 school year through the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Program! (Semester hosting is also an option.) FLEX is a prestigious U.S. Department of State sponsored program that provides the opportunity for students from Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine to experience life in the United States and attend a nearby school. All students have been selected based on English language ability, academic achievement, and community leadership.
Host families are generous volunteers who include the international youth in family life and provide a bed and most meals for their guests throughout the school year. Hosts gain an enriching experience, including the opportunity to learn about a new language and culture. Please contact John Baum at WorldChicago with interest in this program: jbaum@worldchicago.org or (312) 254-1800 x 100.
