Editor in Chief Steps Down
the ending of a short chapter

Richard Leggett 2 Over the course of the last few months it has become increasingly clear to me that the demands of parish ministry, as well as those associated with diocesan and national responsibilities, have repeatedly conflicted with the obligations I owe to the readers, the editorial team, and the staff and Board of the ATR. I have therefore submitted my resignation as Editor in Chief, effective on the 28th of February 2015.

My involvement with the ATR over the last fifteen years has been life-giving. I treasure this gift, and will do all I can to facilitate the transition to a new Editor in Chief as a continuing and dedicated member of the ATR Board. I am particularly grateful to Kate Sonderegger for her wisdom as Chair of the Editorial Committee and for the ongoing support and encouragement of the Board and its president, Roger Ferlo. Whatever success I have achieved in the last two years is surely due to the dedication of Jackie Winter, Roberto Pamatmat, and Vicki Black to our common work.

Leadership in Transition
Ellen K. Wondra chosen as interim editor in chief

Ellen Wondra new On behalf of the Executive Committee, I am pleased to announce that the Rev. Dr. Ellen K. Wondra has agreed to serve as Interim Editor in Chief. Dr. Wondra is research professor of theology and ethics at the Bexley Seabury Theological Seminary Federation, and Editor Emerita of the ATR. She has been active on the Board of the journal since 1990, and served as Editor in Chief from 1997 to 2013. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Wondra for her willingness to provide experienced editorial leadership for the ATR during the search process for a new Editor in Chief.

A Life in Review
the work of theologian Sallie McFague

In a career spanning four decades and encompassing nine monographs, Sallie McFague has pursued a consistent set of theological questions and critical social issues, articulating strategies for linking the study of religious language to contemporary political threats ranging from nuclear annihilation (Models of God: Theology for an Ecological, Nuclear Age, 1987) to environmental degradation (A New Climate for Theology: God, the World, and Global Warming, 2008) to economic collapse (Blessed Are the Consumers: Climate Change and the Practice of Restraint, 2013). While other contemporary theologians have responded to these challenges by arguing for environmental ethics, McFague reaches her conclusion (kenotic theology) from a very different intellectual trajectory. . . .

McFague has devoted her career to asking hard questions about
what early Anglicans called the "godly, righteous, and sober life" and
what modern Americans just call "living well." Throughout her oeuvre
she turns to the parable of the Good Samaritan to meditate on our
relationship to the planet to all of the people and forms of life on
earth. Who, indeed, is my neighbor? . . . Global warming is a theological problem; so are hunger and poverty. To borrow the title of a recent book (2008), she has helped to create a new climate for theology.

People and Places
news from friends of the ATR

ATR Board members Tony Baker, Roger Ferlo, Joy McDougall, and Kathryn Tanner and the ATR's executive director Jackie Winter recently

attended the Trinity Institute 2015, "Creating Common Good," in New York. A one-day symposium for young theologians preceded the conference. The ATR Winter 2016 issue, guest edited by Sathi Clarke, Ian Douglas, and Kathryn Tanner, will include talks delivered at the conference as well as the winner of the Trinity Institute Essay Competition..

Peter Eaton, Dean of St. John's Cathedral in Denver, Colorado, has been elected as bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Southeast Florida. Pending the consent of the Standing Committees and the majority of bishops in the Episcopal Church, Dean Eaton will be consecrated on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Trinity Cathedral in Miami.

Sylvia Sweeney, Dean of Bloy House, continues her service on the Episcopal Church's Task Force on Marriage, and is the author of two articles in its February 2015 report to General Convention, "The History of Marriage" and "Marriage as a Rite of Passage." Ellen K. Wondra has been elected to the World Council of Churches Commission on Faith and Order for a term that will last until 2022. Wondra served on the Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations of the Episcopal Church from 2001 to 2006 and on the Anglican-Roman Catholic Consultation in the U.S.A. (ARCUSA) from 1992 to 2010. She was the co-coordinator of that group's project on authority from 1996 to 2008.

Topics included church planting, Fresh Expressions of Church, Pioneer Ministries, community organizing, and contemporary evangelism. He's already gearing up for next time, in January of 2016.
