Registration Now Open For These 2013 Games in California!

Greetings!

It is an exciting time in Palo Alto as we kick off the 2013 Bay Area Senior Games with our first sport - Badminton, April 27 - followed by the Triathlon on April 28th. We are fortunate to have a partnership with the popular Stanford Treeathlon, whose organizers have created a special Senior Games Division within the Treeathlon.

While all sport registrations have not closed, it looks like there will be over 1000 athletes for this years Games. Track and Field and Racquetball are next up on Saturday, May 4.   Volleyball, Bocce, Lawn Bowling and Golf follow with the final and biggest weekend coming on May 18 and 19! Admission is free to all.

See the boxes for a complete schedule, more information about the 2013 Solar Torch Relay and a special invitation to a Closing Party and Awards at Sports Basement on Monday, May 20.

See you at the Games!

And as usual, we look forward to hearing from you at acribbs@basoc.org with any suggestions and comments.

Solar Torch Runners Relay and Salute to Athletes on Friday, May 17, 5pm at Stanford, Pac 12 Plaza.

Everyone is invited to join us to salute the athletes of the 2013 Bay Area Senior Games at the  Solar Torch Relay beginning at 5:00pm on the Stanford Campus at Pac 12 Plaza. The relay will be followed by the traditional Pasta Dinner at Jimmy's Sports Café on the Stanford Campus at 6:00pm. Solar Torch runners include athete representatives from each Senior Games Sport, sponsor representatives, volunteers and Olympians who will be walking, jogging or running the route carrying the torch which was specially created for the 2009 Summer National Senior Games - a solar-powered, first-of-its-kind Olympic torch, crafted from the wood of an ancient redwood tree and topped with high-efficiency LED lights for a bright flame fueled only by solar-charged batteries.

In 2009 we said, "The Senior Games competitors, like the torch that was specially designed for them, are trailblazers and shining examples of how ingenuity, effort, perseverance and vision create a vital new paradigm that promotes health and sustainability for people and the planet." This comment is true in 2013 as well.
