We are excited to offer a number of different learning opportunities in a variety of art forms this Fall.  Located right in the heart of downtown Carpinteria, the Arts Center has something for everyone to enjoy, whether you like painting or working with polymer clay, fusing glass or learning to play a new instrument.  There are workshops for children and adults.

Create, Write and Publish Workshop Series for Adults
3 Saturdays: September 9, 16, 23, 10AM - noon
Presenter: Rich Grimes
Join this published author of fiction and non-fiction whose books resonate as "works of heart" in a workshop that will offer techniques and suggestions to enhance your writing skills. You will learn how to transform an idea, theme or topic into published form, whether it is a blog, poetry, article, or manuscript.

An Introduction to Meditation and Chinese Calligraphy Ages 12 - Adult

Finding Peace and Balance through Chinese calligraphy, and using meditation to focus the creative process, you will explore the spiritual meaning behind the words Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Clarity and Enlightenment. The workshop will include demonstrations, lecture, handouts, and individual attention. No previous experience is necessary. All materials provided.

Getting to Know Polymer Clay for Adults

Also known as Fimo or Sculpey, come get a taste of what this astonishing modern material can do! It can be carved, rolled, blended, stretched, sculpted, painted, mixed with other materials, and then baked in a home oven in 20 minutes! Artists have adapted techniques and tools to produce everything from miniatures to jewelry. Come learn the basics in this introductory workshop. All materials provided.

Still Life Painting with Meredith Brooks Abbott for Adults
Sunday, September 24, 9:00 AM - noon
Presenter: Meredith Brooks Abbott
Oil painters are invited to bring your easels and spend the morning with this well-known local master artist. First, she will inspire you with a demo painting then give you guidance and critique as you make your own painting from a still life arrangement that will be specially set up by the artist. A materials list will be emailed. All proceeds from this workshop will benefit the Carpinteria Arts Center.

Summer/Fall Whimsical Wednesday 
Art Tours and Excursions
A rt related events and tours typically on the first Wednesday of every month; however, this may vary depending on the programming and location of the venue.  We visit local galleries and museums, as well as Los Angeles art institutions.   All of our tours have a maximum number of participants.  To reserve a place on one of these excursions, register at CarpinteriaArtsCenter.org  or stop by the gallery Thursday through Monday, 10 to 4.  There is a minimal registration fee for local tours, payable to the Carpinteria Arts Center before the registration deadline for each event.

The Wolf Museum of Exploration and Innovation. A guided docent-led tour of Santa Barbara's newest hands-on destination with loads of interactive experiences organized around seven themes that relate to science, technology, engineering, art and math.  Discover a new way to discover, play and engage.

A guided tour of the exhibit "THE SCHOOLHOUSE AND THE BUS: MOBILITY, PEDAGOGY, AND ENGAGEMENT". Suzanne Lacy and Pablo Helguera, leading practioners of the Public Practice Movement, juxtapose key examples of their work highlighting themes of immigration, pedagogy, race, social organizing and theatricality. This exhibition is part of Pacific Standard Time, an initiative of the Getty with arts institutions across Southern California.

Below are a description of Jane's background and the nature of the workshop:
 
Jane Blundell has been painting in watercolor for over 35 years and is a professional artist and teacher as well as being a member of the Australian Watercolor Institute.  She is a passionate sketcher and while she works in all medium her favorite is watercolor.  She paints anything - urban, landscapes, flowers, rocks, people, still/life, whatever  - usually from life.  Her understanding of color and pigments is based on years of personal research and exploration, and can be seen in her two self-published books:
Watrercolor/Mixing Charts and The Ultimate Mixing Palette: A World Of Colour.
 
The workshop in September will be both a sketching and watercolor class.  The location places participants in a unique area with many different opportunities to capture the beauty of the area.  At the hotel there is both classroom space and the ability to explore and work out in nature.
