April 19

Sunday, April 22
 10:00 am
Join us this week as we continue our Easter exploration of the early church with stories from the Acts of the Apostles.
Follow Peter and the other early Apostles as they contend with what it means to follow Christ, even when it
brings them into conflict with the leaders of the temple. Melanie Marsh Baum's sermon is entitled " The Audacity of Lovethe scriptures are Acts 4:1-12 and 1 John 3:16-24.

Music Notes: The fourth Sunday of Easter is commonly observed as "Good Shepherd" Sunday, emphasizing the 23rd Psalm. The choir presents a paraphrase of the text arranged to a Southern-American hymn tune by Virgil Thomson. Covenant soloist, Lynne Hoffman-Engel, presents a setting of the King James Version of the text by another 20th century American, Albert Hay Malotte (known most commonly for his setting of the Lord's Prayer). The prelude and postlude reflect the more tranquil theme of the day with two "Impromptus" by Franz Schubert (piano) and Louis Vierne (organ) - a 19th century instrumental form that reflects an improvisational moment as if "prompted by the spirit."

Children leave for Sunday School after the Time for Young Disciples. The nursery opens at 9:30 am with professional childcare for infants and preschoolers.

Confirmation Student Spotlight

Confirmand:  Victoria Hagen
Mentor:  Lucy Matz

I've been privileged and honored to watch Victoria Hagen grow in her faith these past few months, and have witnessed her curiosity take flight! It has been nice getting to know Victoria outside of Covenant's walls, and together we have enjoyed new experiences of religious education that have opened both of our eyes to new perspectives and ideologies. It has been a pleasure being alongside Victoria during her journey of faith, and I find that she has been eager, open, attentive, and active in her time of discernment.
