Sunday, July 9  Worship 10:00 am

This Sunday we hear a biblical story that at first seems almost mundane: a wife is found for Isaac. But on closer inspection, this story reveals deep truths about what it means to navigate life from a foundation of faith. How do you experience and acknowledge God's presence in your daily life? What role does prayer (i.e., communication with God) play in your decisions big and small? Join us as we worship and wonder.

Amy Starr Redwine's Sermon is entitled "God in the Details."  The scriptures are Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-67  and Philippians 4:4-7 . Our Lay Worship Leader is Ann Williams.

Bulletins are posted at  CovenantWeb.org/read/listen where you can also read or listen to sermons.
We invite all children to participate in a Time for Young Disciples. This Sunday children kindergarten through 3rd grade will have Sunday School. Families may meet their children at the time of fellowship following worship. Well children of all ages are welcome in worship, a nursery for infants through children pre-kindergarten age is available, opening at 9:30 am. Contact Mindy Stewart, Director of Family Ministries, at  [email protected]  for more information about programs for youth and families.  Click here  for a summer schedule for youth.
Stories from the Book of Genesis Summer Sermon Series. In the beginning... This summer in worship we will be hearing stories from the book of Genesis. From creation to the extraordinary lives of the forefathers and foremothers of our faith tradition, these stories not only reveal to us who God is, but who we are as God's children, called to faithfully serve God and one another even as we care for the world around us.

Music Notes: This Sunday we welcome Jessica Lee and Michael Peters.

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School and grand prize winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition,
Jessica Lee  has been heard as soloist and chamber musician in venues all over the world, such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Kennedy Center, and so on. She has previously held positions at Vassar College and Rutgers University, in addition to being a member of the Johannes String Quartet. She currently resides in Cleveland, serves as assistant concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra, and is thrilled to be a part of the Covenant family.

Michael Peters has sung at Covenant for the past eight years as a member of the Covenant choir and as a soloist. A lifelong church musician, Michael began singing in children's and youth church choirs growing up in PA. While in grade school, he and a fellow classmate would often travel to area churches to sing, accompanied by his mother. Michael joined the adult choir at his home church during his high school years and continued to be involved in church music during his undergraduate studies. He was bass section leader at a large Lutheran, and then later Presbyterian church in Ann Arbor while earning an organ performance and a chemistry degree from the University of Michigan. During graduate study in choral conducting at Westminster Choir College, Michael was organist and directed adult and handbell choirs at a Methodist church on the New Jersey shore. He also served as director of music at a Presbyterian church in the FL panhandle. Michael has enjoyed singing with various other church choirs including those at Westminster Presbyterian and St. Mark's Cathedral in Minneapolis, and at St. Clement's in Philadelphia.

Congratulations to Qu'Jane Gordon and Clifford Gulley
who were married on May 26 at the Chagrin Falls Country Club. Qu'Jane grew up at Covenant and went on the youth mission trip after Hurricane Katrina. She is the daughter of Stephanie Johnson, step-daughter of Kenyon Johnson, sister of LaShawna Adams, Sandra Gordon, and Aunt to Justin, Camron, and Kaileigh. Sandra and Cliff went to Ohio University together and Sandra introduced him to her sister.

Please send prayer requests to Melanie Marsh Baum. Names are generally moved from the bulletin after four weeks unless there is a continuing need. Please let the church know if you or a loved one are in the hospital; HIPAA privacy regulations prevent hospitals from sharing this information.

Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Pray for those impacted by gun violence
Since a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012,  killing 26 people, 20 of them children; 789  people in Cuyahoga County have been killed by guns. Since last month, 9 more individuals have died by gun violence in Cuyahoga County. Four of those who died were by suicide.

Believing God calls us to be peacemakers, by Session action, each  month we pray for people affected by gun violence and to reduce the evil of gun violence in our nation, marked by the tolling of the tower bell. Join us, in this time of increased concern over deadly gun violence in our county, our country, and the world, in remembering and praying that God will show us the way to a new commitment to Peace on Earth.  The Church of the Covenant partners with God Before Guns, a multi-faith coalition of individuals and faith communities created in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, to reduce gun violence. Go to  GodBeforeGuns.org  to see how to become engaged.

Our next outdoor worship services will be Sundays, August 6 and September 2.
Thank you to George Leggiero for this picture.
Sam, Mary Anne, Susan, Ann, Jim and Jenny were part of Sunday's work crew.

Following a pot-luck lunch, a work crew tackled a number of projects.

Patty Fowler captured a couple "before and after" pictures. Below is the before and after for the space behind the church.

Thank you all!
