Robust Industry Hires and Spending Continue Into 3rd Quarter
Film and television productions continue to bring thousands of jobs and millions of dollars into New York State in the third quarter of 2016 - a continued trend thanks to the state's highly successful film production and post-production tax credit programs.

As of mid-September, 142 productions comprised of 72 feature films, 55 series and 15 pilots have applied to the film production program, representing a total New York spend of some $2.6 billion and 171,236 hires.

MPAA Regional Road Show
New York presents to Key Film Industry Professionals

On Sept. 27, regional film offices from across New  York State were given the opportunity to present the unique qualities of their areas to representatives of the major film and television studios at the headquarters of the Motion Picture Association of America in Los Angeles.

Facilitated by the Governor's Office of Motion Picture & Television Development (MPTV), and in the tradition of MPTV's successful Reverse FAM Tours in NYC (see related article on Orange County's Reverse FAM tour in this newsletter), the MPAA members heard directly from the New York regional film offices without having to leave their west coast base.

Governor Cuomo and Kevin James Visit Rescue 1 Firehouse
 Paying respect to first responders on 9/11

On Sept. 11, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo visited the FDNY Rescue 1 Firehouse on West 43rd St. in Manhattan, along with actor and native New Yorker Kevin James to pay tribute to the strength, courage and heroism of the first responders who led recovery efforts during and following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The visit was part of a day of remembrance preceded by the Governor attending the Sept. 11 Commemoration Ceremony, then joining more than 450 motorcycle riders participating in the 9/11 Memorial Motorcycle Ride at a lunch, where he spoke to the attendees.

The Empire State is an Emmy Standout
A Rewarding Night for Television

Congratulations to the 19 Creative Arts and Primetime Emmy Award winners from New York-based production and post-production projects. Twelve of the wins represent nine projects that participate in the New York State Film Tax Credit Program, and which collectively spent approximately $343 million in New York and created more than 158,000 hires. 



The Creative Arts Emmys were awarded over two ceremonies on Sept. 10 and 11, while the Primetime Emmy Awards were broadcast on Sept. 18.  The following is a list of New York-based Emmy winners:

New York State's Film Festivals
Celebrating Diversity Through Film 


Close to 150 film festivals take place in New York State throughout the year, and they reflect the rich and diverse identities of the people of New York. 

 From Niagara Falls to the Montauk Lighthouse, attendees are able to celebrate and experience diversity through the medium of film.

The entertainment industry in New York State is committed to balancing effective filmmaking practices with investing in the local communities where they film. 

More and more productions are signing on to take advantage of Film Good/Do Good, a joint initiative between the Governor's Office of Motion Picture & Television Development and the New York State Commission On National and Community Service that streamlines the process and creates service events and volunteer opportunities that make a powerful positive impact by addressing root causes of poverty.

New York Film and Television Student Alliance Holds 4th Statewide Summit
Students from Fordham, SUNY Oswego, Hamilton, SUNY Oneonta and more gather in Ithaca
 
The New York Film and Television Student Alliance (NYFTSA) held its 4th Statewide Summit on Sept. 17-18 on the campus of Ithaca College in upstate New York. Close to 100 students and educators representing five schools from around the state, registered for "The Future Is Now". 

The summit agenda included film screenings, panels and workshops from industry professionals on screenwriting, sound, lighting, pitching stories and location managing.

Currently Filming & Releasing
New York's Post-Production Industry Soars


The rollout of films and television series continues throughout October with some highly anticipated projects from Universal, Columbia Pictures, CBS and HBO, among others, releasing and premiering soon.  

These projects participated in New York State's film incentive program, and while filming and posting here they generated nearly $410 million in economic activity and created more than 25,000 new hires.

Meet The Team: Reverse FAM Tour, Orange County

The New York Governor's Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTV) welcomed Dawn Ansbro, the Orange County Film Commissioner this summer for the latest installment of our Meet the Team: Reverse FAM Tour series. 

The event was held in the boardroom of our Midtown Manhattan offices with over two dozen entertainment industry professionals in attendance, including location managers and scouts, local union reps and independent film producers in attendance.
