New Research: Dual-Capacity Professional Development in San Mateo County

The Early Childhood Language Development Institute (ECLDI) offers services and supports for families in San Mateo County with a focus on early care and education of dual language learners in the public school system. In 2015, ECLDI partnered with Gardner Center researchers to assess its current programming and support future development. In this report, we describe what we learned about program participants and service delivery, promising emerging patterns in teacher and parent practice, and conditions that facilitate or hinder ECLDI program implementation.

NICOLE ARDOIN is Associate Professor of Education & Senior Fellow in the Woods Institute for the Environment.

BRIGID BARRON is a Professor of Education. She is a developmental psychologist who studies processes of collaborative learning in and out of school.

LISA CHAMBERLAIN is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. She founded and is the medical director of the Stanford Pediatric Advocacy Program.

TOM DEE is Professor of Education and Director of the Stanford Center for Education Policy Analysis, and a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research.

SHELLEY GOLDMAN is Professor of Education (Teaching) and Mechanical Engineering (by courtesy). Shelley is an educational anthropologist and the current faculty director of the Gardner Center.

JELENA OBRADOVIC is Professor of Education in the Child and Adolescent Development Program.
