Dine and Discover
with Dr. Bruce Wheeler
Wednesday, February 1
noon-1pm
Join us for a lecture with author and professor Dr. Bruce Wheeler on "Knoxville: The Fragmented City."
After World War I, Knoxville began a period of impressive economic growth and vitality. Yet, even as the city grew, its citizens seemed to grow farther and farther apart. In such an environment, it was difficult for intellectual and artistic life to flourish. In a city with a major state university, that institution should have provided leadership for performing, visual, and print artists.
Why didn't it do so?
Wheeler will conclude with a visit to the Higher Ground installation to discuss the art created during this time.
Wheeler is the author of Knoxville, Tennessee: Mountain City in the New South (2005).
Participants can bring lunch or call Krishna Adams at 865.934.2037 (no later than January 30) to order lunch from the Lunchbox. The cost for lunch is $10.00 (cash only, please).
