Dinner/Dance Planning Committee Needs Your Help

Members of a north side support group are currently in the planning stages of holding a dinner/dance fundraiser in 2015. This will be the first of it's kind for the North Suburbs. We hope to make it a yearly event to not only raise awareness for a good cause but to do it in the company of all of you who have supported us throughout the years. What better way to close out 2014. If interested in volunteering please contact Pam at 847-502-4751.

A Message from the President & CEO

It's hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of 2014. What a wonderful year full of exciting changes. In 2014, we changed our name, joined the Lupus Research Institute National Coalition and continued to put Illinois' lupus community first. Providing the best possible support to the entire lupus community continues to be the guiding principal.

For over 40 years, we have been the ONLY organization in Illinois serving the lupus community. No other organization can make that claim. We are here, in Illinois, and our priority is YOU. Thank you for your continued support - we couldn't have done it without you.

Today, I ask your support to "GET LUPUS INCLUDED." If you could take a few minutes and join us in contacting the FDA. The Patient-Focused Drug Development Initiative is getting the patient perspective on selected diseases and their treatments. The FDA is currently inviting public comment on what disease areas it should include in the public meetings to be held in the next couple of years. Lupus is NOT on the FDA's preliminary list. But the FDA is asking for feedback before finalizing the list. Join the LSI, the LRI and the LRI National Coalition members in voicing your concerns.

Find out how here.

We're encouraging everyone to write to the FDA about why lupus must be included. Responses MUST be sent in by TOMORROW Friday, December 5th.

Before I sign off for 2014, I want to thank the newly formed Junior Board on their highly successful kickoff event at Lagunitas on November 17. This group of young people got together with LSI Board Member Bill Evans and created this magnificent event. Read more about this fantastic event - and check out some photos from the event - here.

2015 promises to be an even more exciting year. We have some developments for our programs and services that we'll be announcing next month. And the 2015 Illinois Lupus Walks will open for registration in early January - be sure to mark your calendars!

Together we make a difference.

"Undo" Rather Than "To Do"
 By Laura Mills

It's easy to put ourselves last when it comes to gift giving. What we give ourselves is often hardly a gift anyway; stress, that unwelcome yet persistent part of the holidays, sneaks in and makes itself at home as we create our lists, lug around our decorations, wrap, rush and socialize. As a yoga teacher I've learned ways of managing stress over the years, but honestly-even for yoga teachers-the hardest part of stress management is remembering to do it. Yet as the days shorten, the nights darken, and the ever-busy holidays approach, it's more important than ever to take care of ourselves, including our stress.

Help Us Save Lives!

We are compiling a list of healthcare professionals to contact with information about lupus and the LSI.  Our hope is that these physicians will provide LSI's factual information about lupus to their patients and staff and LSI's lifesaving programs and services will be promoted to those who need it most.

Would you be willing to provide the name and contact information of your personal physicians - rheumatologists, internists, general practitioners, dermatologists, ob/gyn, etc.?

Click here for more & the survey.
