Lupus Story
Kim Milroy

I was diagnosed by a second opinion having discoid lupus. However, when I started experiencing pain, infections, soreness and fatigue, my family doctor kept treating me for that particular problem and didn't link everything together. He finally referred me to University of Iowa hospital and clinics.

Our Mission
LSI promotes lupus awareness and complements the work of health care professionals by providing personalized resources for the lupus community while supporting research.

A Message from the President & CEO

This Sunday, 40,000 people will participate in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.  21 of them will be running for the LSI.

I can't begin to tell you how inspiring these athletes are.  Some have lupus, some care for someone with lupus and all of them have taken on the amazing challenge of running 26.2 miles as part of LSI's Lupus Charity Runners program in support of our mission.

Each participant's story is as unique as lupus.  Most of the participants share their reason for running on their fundraising website and I encourage you all to visit these sites to READ about these incredible athletes.

You can also join us at the marathon to show your support.  LSI will again be on the South East corner of Laflin & Adams cheering on our runners and enjoying this inspiring event.

Thanks to all of our runners!  You are inspirations to us all!

LSI also needs to thank volunteer Tom Selcke who organized the Balmoral Park Night at the Races event on September 27.  The event was a huge success bringing in over $7,500 for our mission.

For over 40 years the LSI has been here to serve Illinois' lupus community.  With supporters like Tom Selcke and the Lupus Charity Runners team, we are able to continue our work in the lupus community.  Thank you!  You are proof that...

Together we make a difference,

Charles Brummell

Childhood Lupus Educational Event

On Saturday September 13, LSI hosted an educational event on Childhood Lupus.  The event was developed by Dr. Marisa Klein-Gitelman of Lurie Children's Hospital and Dr. Linda Wagner-Weiner of the University of Chicago.

The event included presentations by physicians and break out sessions for both children and adults.  The highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring young adults who had been diagnosed with lupus as children.

Thanks to everyone for making this event such a success!
Help Us Save Lives!

We are compiling a list of healthcare professionals to contact with information about lupus and the LSI.  Our hope is that these physicians will provide LSI's factual information about lupus to their patients and staff and LSI's lifesaving programs and services will be promoted to those who need it most.

Would you be willing to provide the name and contact information of your personal physicians - rheumatologists, internists, general practitioners, dermatologists, ob/gyn, etc.?

Click here for more & the survey.
Balmoral Park Lupus Fundraiser HUGE Success!
Tom, Fran & Jerry at the Balmoral Park Event

On Saturday, September 27, 2014, LSI volunteer Tom Selcke hosted a fundraiser at Balmoral Park that raised over $7,500 for our mission in Illinois!

The event included a 50/50 raffle and silent auction.  The event was made possible by Tom and friends Jerry & Fran Michelsen.

Thanks to Tom, Jerry & Fran for all of their hard work and dedication!  Together we make a difference!

"When I was first diagnosed, my doctor advised me to contact the Lupus Society of Illinois for information and support - and that is exactly what I did,"  Gonzalez says.  She discovered the Lupus Society of Illinois (LSI) had the facts about lupus as well as unique programs and services to assist her with the unique issues people with lupus are faced with - and the LSI provides all of its programs and services at no cost.
