Driving Miss Daisy
Wednesday, October 5
7 P.M. (doors open at 6:30 P.M.)
$10/ticket (purchase tickets in advance)
Greater Light, 8 Howard Street
The NHA and "The House that Mac Built" present a staged reading of Driving Miss Daisy to honor the life of Joseph 'Mac' Dixon, the co-founder and forty-year Artistic Director of Theatre Workshop of Nantucket.

Alfred Uhry's classic play is a timeless, blistering, funny and ultimately hopeful deliberation on race relations in America, told through the complex relationship between a wealthy Jewish woman and her African-American chauffeur. What begins as a contentious, hostile association, soon blooms into a deep, life-altering friendship, which transcends social boundaries. This performance features Elizabeth Gilbert and Neville Richen.

"Contrary to the Advice of Friends: Disownments and Transgressions in the 18th Century Nantucket Quaker Women's Meeting" with the 2016 NHA Verney Fellow Jeffrey Kovach

NHA Verney Fellow Jeffrey Kovach explores an important demonstration of public authority by the 18th century women's meeting that would help build the foundation for 19th century female activism.  From the establishment of the Quaker Monthly Meeting on Nantucket in 1708, the women's business meeting served a vital role in regulating marriage on the island. Toward that effort, the women's meeting oversaw instances of bigamy, incest, fornication, and exogamy within its membership .

FFT Thursday, October 20:
"Moby-Dick Limericks" with Christine Harding
