Inglewood Elementary School Work to Begin this Summer

ING Renovation

The North Penn School District (NPSD) Board of School Directors approved the bids to begin work this summer on the renovations to Inglewood Elementary School.

The project includes renovations to the current building including accessibility upgrades, roof and window replacements, kitchen alterations, classroom renovations, HVAC and plumbing renovations, electrical upgrades and security upgrades. The project also includes the construction of additional areas related to the main office and health suite, a receiving area and gymnasium storage.

Work will begin at Inglewood this summer and will last through the summer of 2013. As has occurred in other schools in the district, as work is done in a particular area of the building, students will be relocated to modular classrooms on site.

Although the NPSD and school districts across the nation are facing financial challenges in the current recession, it is important that facilities are maintained and improved as scheduled. The NPSD Board of School Directors thanks the NPSD community for its support as we modernize our buildings for 21st century learners.

School Board Adopts Resolution for Tax Installment Plan

Beginning July 1, 2012, an installment option will be provided to all taxpayers in the North Penn School District. Previously, this option was only available to Homestead Act eligible properties.

A taxpayer selecting the installment payment option may pay the real estate tax in three equal installment payments of one-third of the full tax amount. The installments will be due on or before August 1, September 15 and October 31 in the year in which the tax is levied. Any installment not paid in full by these dates is delinquent.

It is important to note that opting for the installment plans makes taxpayers ineligible for the discounted rate. For further information regarding the payment installment option, penalty on delinquent installments and more, click here.

Please call your tax collector with any questions you may have regarding the real estate tax installment payment plan.

Electricity Broker to Help NPSD Save Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars

In an effort to decrease expenses related to electricity, the North Penn School District (NPSD) contracted with Amerex Brokers, LLC, to purchase power at a reduced cost.

Previously, NPSD purchased PECO utility power through the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU).  The method used by the MCIU is called Block and Index which typically yielded a savings of 11 percent off the utility benchmark. This method is very conservative and is most successful in a semi-stable market.

The way that NPSD will now purchase power through Amerex will provide more latitude and flexibility in a less stable environment, which the nation is currently experiencing. Amerex uses a method of purchasing power that multiplies a heat rate to the commodity cost of natural gas to calculate power costs. Essentially, power can be purchased the same way natural gas is purchased. Recent data indicates that other school districts using this method have yielded a 25 percent savings off the benchmark as compared to the Block and Index method. This could translate into a $450,000 savings a year for NPSD.

Efforts such as contracting with Amerex, Green Schools initiatives, transportation efficiencies and other changes to decrease operational costs help NPSD direct its valuable resources to its core mission of educating students.
