Women's Wellness Weekend
Cape May, New Jersey
September 9-11, 2016

Seventy-one participants, along with Committee members, volunteers and staff, gathered at Saint Mary by-the-Sea Retreat House in Cape May, New Jersey for the Ninth Annual Women’s Wellness Weekend, held from September 9-11, 2016. The weekend is sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph Development Office, and provides time for rest, relaxation, education, spiritual enrichment and fun.

On Saturday, Sister Trudy Ahern SSJ presented the keynote address entitled, Fully Alive in God. “God’s greatest glory,” Trudy explained, “is the person fully alive. How do we become fully alive? We do this by becoming aware, fully attentive to our body, mind, heart and spirit. Every part of us is spiritual. God wants us to be fully alive…living life to the full. And that means growing in holiness.  Jesus was fully alive and came and showed us what that looked like in the flesh. The more we are filled with God the more we are filled with life.”

Over the course of the weekend, participants had the opportunity to participate in workshops ranging from Mystics and Me to Anti-Aging Strategies to Line Dancing! A highlight of the weekend was the Saturday evening themed social, Denim and Diamonds , where everyone was encouraged to wear checkered blouses, boots and jeans!

Sister Kathleen Pales SSJ , Director of Development, reflects on the joy of the weekend. “This weekend truly enables these women to be renewed in mind, body and spirit. It is wonderful to share Saint Mary by-the-Sea with those who appreciate it so deeply. Being here with the participants and watching them engage with each other, I can see our mission of unity being fulfilled in such a clear and concrete way.”

“Above all, in contemplating the life of Jesus, we find the model of one who is emptied so that he can be filled with the fullness of love. As we respond faithfully to this transforming love, our hearts are opened to share this love with the whole world..”
