Ready for Any Good Work
  By Julie Fertsch SSJ
For the first two weeks in March, we had the fine privilege of hosting staff and college students from Rockhurst University in Kansas City and UNC Chapel Hill from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. What a gift to spend time getting to know, serving with, and sharing a bit of the journey with such fine, beautiful young people!

The groups had many opportunities to become more familiar with our mission as Sisters and Associates of Saint Joseph and to get to know the cities of Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. They served in a variety of placement sites: LaSalle Academy, Visitation School, St. Martin dePorres School, St. Joan of Arc After School Program, St. John’s Hospice, Joseph’s House and the Inglis House. They also had the opportunity to get to know our St. Joseph Workers!

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to supporting this effort!

Saint Joseph’s Day Service Project
March 29, 2017
By Pat Madden SSJ
This year the annual Saint Joseph’s Day Service Project at The Welcome Center in Kensington, Philadelphia, was delayed because of the recent snowstorm.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, our friend, John Bowie, led us in prayer as we began this significant event. Then, staff, volunteers, students and associates packed 155 lbs. of rice into 100 Ziploc bags. This rice will be distributed to our students, as well as to our dear neighbors, who visit food pantries in our neighborhood.

We are so grateful that through this project we can serve others in the manner of Saint Joseph.

Step Away for a Day
Program of the SSJ Earth Center
April 5, 2017
This year at the invitation of Sister Mary Elizabeth Clark SSJ , Director of the SSJ Earth Center, ten women from Holy Cross and Our Lady of Hope Parishes participated in the Step Away for a Day Program On April 5, 2017, they gathered at Duggan Hall on the grounds of the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Saint Joseph to enjoy a day apart for reflection, artistic expression and holistic health.

Step Away for A Day is a program of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Earth Center for women in impoverished situations to enjoy a day apart from their stressful lives, Often, these women do not have the means to afford these opportunities to learn holistic methods of stress reduction, healthy eating and artistic expression of emotions.

Wednesday’s program, supported by volunteer presenters, offered a variety of activities which included: chair yoga, drumming, labyrinth prayer, a nature project and discussion on Pope Francis’s message Care for Our Common Home. The participants and presenters enjoyed lunch in the Motherhouse dining room and ended the day with a closing ritual.
"We are drawn together in community by our desire for union with God, with one another,  and with all persons in and through Jesus Christ. "
