Celtic Golf Raffle Winner Chosen
Saint Joseph Villa
May 7, 2018
The luck o’ the Irish was with Joseph Burns of Cape May, New Jersey when  Sister Eileen Marnien SSJ pulled his ticket from among 299 others on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Saint Joseph Villa.

Mr. Burns was overjoyed to learn that he was the winner of this  Deluxe Golf Trip for Two to southwest Ireland. Joe has been buying these tickets since 2001, and he and his wife have always wanted to visit Ireland. “Now we have no excuse not to go,” said Mr. Burns, who attended St. Vincent School in Germantown as a child and whose aunt was a Sister of Saint Joseph.

Mr. and Mrs. Burns will fly from JFK Airport to Shannon, Ireland and will enjoy six days and five nights at the 5-star Killarney Park Hotel, Killarney Co, Kerry. After a full Irish breakfast, they will be welcomed to play a round of golf at a different course in the area each day.

The drawing was live streamed from the dining room at the Villa, with many sisters and Villa employees on hand to observe. “The Villa sisters have been praying for the success of this project, and they pray daily for all of our benefactors who support our Development Office efforts,” noted  Sister Kathleen Pales SSJ , Development Director. “We are so grateful to our many generous friends who buy these tickets every year, attend our events and faithfully respond to our appeals. We are truly blessed to have so many partners in mission.”

“We sold all 300 tickets this year, making this our most successful year ever,” said Nicole Schlein, Events Coordinator for the Sisters of Saint Joseph Development Office. “We are very grateful to Jerry and Josephine Quinlan of Celtic Golf Distinctive Travel Experiences in Cape May Court House for making this fundraiser possible.

All proceeds benefit the ministries and retirement needs of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

iPads for Sister Residents
As a way to commemorate the 50 th Anniversary of Saint Joseph Villa, an Appeal was generated by the Development Office, offering opportunities to gift the Villa community in a variety of ways.

One suggestion was gifts for ongoing technology upgrades — specifically iPads for the sister residents. The response from our benefactors and dear neighbors was extremely generous and iPads were purchased for the sisters.

Under the direction of  Sister Louise Kane SSJ, thirty-eight sisters are now learning to use this new technology and thoroughly enjoying it! Louise and the sisters meet every Monday afternoon to share, learn and practice. Louise downloaded a number of programs onto the iPads such as  Easy Tablet Learning for Seniors Pandora Music the Congregational Website , etc.

We are so grateful to our loving benefactors who continue to significantly impact the future and mission of Saint Joseph Villa.

New Gazebo Installed
The beautiful grounds of Saint Joseph Villa are beginning to bloom with newly planted trees, shrubs and flowers for our sisters, lay residents, employees and visitors to enjoy.

Because of all who so generously support Saint Joseph Villa, our latest exciting addition to the landscape is the installation of a gazebo near the main entrance of the Villa. It offers a place to visit, relax, enjoy the outdoors and be sheltered at the same time!

"Rooted in the mission of Christ, ours is the same mission which continually unfolds in the Church, 'That all may be one as you, Father, are in me, and I in you. I pray that they may be one in us.' (Jn 17:21)."
