Continuing Education Seeks Partners for Apprenticeship Program

It can be a struggle for caregiver employers to find competent, caring individuals trained to meet the needs of their senior or disabled clients. UNLV Continuing Education has positioned its Personal Care Aide (PCA) Apprenticeship Certificate Program to meet the growing demand for personal care services.  UNLV Continuing Education, through Nevada's Apprenticeship Project, has received approval from the Department of Labor for its PCA program to participate as a registered apprenticeship program.

Employers now will have a comprehensive, effective method for training new staff in the essential skills and work ethic needed for success as a personal care aide. One of our caregiver partners, Visiting Angels, shares their story.

New Leadership at Division of Educational Outreach

UNLV is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Miera as Vice Provost for Educational Outreach. "Joseph brings to UNLV outstanding leadership experience in extended learning, distance learning, and educational outreach," said Diane Chase, UNLV's Executive Vice President and Provost.

Miera is nationally recognized in higher education as a leader in educational outreach/extended studies. He also is an active member of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPC EA) and Learning Resources Network (LERN), serving as a  board member for both organizations.

The Division of Educational Outreach is also pleased to announce an administrative faculty  promotion. Tami Langohr has been appointed Assistant Vice Provost for the division. She previously served as Executive Director of Finance and Business.

In her new role, Langohr will continue the duties of her previous role, while also supporting the day-to-day internal division operations and overseeing the off-campus academic credit course program.
