Record Five UArts Students Chosen for
Top  Collegiate Jazz Orchestra

Congratulations to Instrumental Performance majors Henry Tirfe '18 (Saxophone) , Anthony Nigro '18 (Saxophone) , Andrew Connors '18 (Trumpet) , Matt Salazar '18 (Trumpet) Chris Mele '18 (Trombone) , and   John Venezia '18 (Drumset) ,  who have been selected for the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra   (MACJO), recognized as the premier orchestra for the East Coast's finest college jazz musicians. The five winners were the most of any school in the history of the competition, which this year included much larger schools such as Fordham University, the University of Massachusetts and Temple University.
 
Among the saxophones, Tirfe was selected as lead tenor and Nigro as second alto; in the trumpets category, Connors was named lead and Salazar a member of the top section; Mele was chosen as lead trombone and Venezia as drumset alternate.

Chosen from nominations submitted by colleges throughout the Mid-Atlantic states, all selected UArts students are members of the "Z" Big Band, directed by School of Music Assistant Professor and alumnus Matt Gallagher  MM '01 (Jazz Studies).

 


UArts 140th Anniversary Watch
 
The University of the Arts community has the opportunity to purchase a special memento of UArts' 140th Anniversary celebration--the 140th Anniversary Watch--and to help UArts students in the process.
 
The watch was designed in honor of the University's anniversary by
Yeongchun "Rich" Park BS '87 (Industrial Design), immediate past vice president of the Samsung Art and Design Institute in South Korea and currently a professor of Product Design Innovation at Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales, U.K. This limited-edition high-quality watch is available only until the end of the academic year, and only 140 will be sold. Proceeds go to support UArts students and programs. 
 
You can purchase a watch from the UArts School Store, either online or in person. The store is located at 307 South 13th Street in Philadelphia.

Save the Date! Art Unleashed 2017 

Join us for the 8th Annual Art Unleashed on Thursday, April 6 - Monday April 10, 2017.

This special event raises critical scholarship funds for UArts students. Works by UArts students, alumni, faculty and staff will be on display and available for purchase. Opening Night Party will be a festive affair giving an exclusive first look at the exhibition while you mingle with artists and enjoy entertainment by UArts performing arts students over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

All alumni are invited to submit their work for to be juried for the exhibition. More details will be announced soon.
