Visionary Dance Philanthropist Headlines UArts' 139th Commencement Ceremony
Philanthropist and visionary dance supporter
Glorya Kaufman
will receive an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree at the University of the Arts' 139th Commencement ceremony, taking place on
Thursday, May 11
at the Merriam Theater. She will also deliver the keynote address.
Through her organization, the Glorya Kaufman Foundation, she has been a major supporter of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Juilliard School, and the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. In addition, each year her foundation's support allows some 16,000 children to participate in free dance classes at Inner City Arts in Los Angeles.
Glorya is a founding member of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, a patron of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and she sits on the board of directors of the Geffen Playhouse in L.A., along with Steven Spielberg and Quincy Jones, among others.

Silver Star Outstanding Alumni Awards

will be awarded Silver Star Outstanding Alumni Awards at the 139th Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 11.
Robin Eubanks BM '78 (Trombone)
is recognized as one of the world's top jazz trombonists. Eubanks has collaborated with such renowned artists as Art Blakey, Elivn Jones, Eddie Palmieri, Sun Ra, Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads.
He has won Grammys for his performance on Michael Brecker's
Wide Angles
and Dave Holland's
What Goes Around
and
Overtime
.
Daniel Joseph BS '06 (Industrial Design)
is a Principal Special Effects Designer and Illusion Developer for Walt Disney Imagineering -- more famously known as an "Imagineer." Daniel is currently listed as the inventor of 25 Disney patents and in 2016, he was the Imagineer in charge of returning the "Hatbox Ghost" to the Haunted Mansion at the Disneyland Resort after an absence of almost 50 years. Daniel is currently working on the new Star Wars Land, and also working on illusions for the Beauty and the Beast Attraction for Tokyo Disneyland.

Speak to Parents of Admitted Students at Annual Admit One Event
Earlier this spring, 10 young, successful UArts alumni spoke to parents of prospective students at our annual Admit One event.
Admit One is an opportunity for accepted students and their parents to experience UArts' studios, classrooms, residence halls and dining facilities first-hand. The students were able to engage with current students and faculty, and explore all that our location in the heart of downtown Philadelphia has to offer.
The young alumni panel offered parents the opportunity to hear the stories of successful, young alumni and ask important questions about student experience and life after graduation.
