Fall is in the air!
Summer at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame was filled with weddings, summer camps, out-of-town visitors, and ended with Boomsday 2010. With the Smoky Mountains beginning to fill with color and fall weather moving in, the Hall of Fame is buzzing with excitement. We have begun to host field trips and education programs, with visits from Garden Discovery Center and Newport Grammar School. We are preparing for the upcoming collegiate basketball season, as we begin to invite teams to the Hall that are travelling through the area. Of course, our main event in the fall is the State Farm Tip-Off Classic! Keep reading for the latest news and information from the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Bridezilla Films at the Hall

We love hosting weddings and receptions at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, but last February we hosted our first Bridezilla! The show, known for its bridal meltdowns, filmed at the Hall for two days and caught all of the tears, screams, and laughter. Although it was a hectic couple of days, our Bridezilla, Ayanna, and her fiancée, David, said their 'I dos' right here at the Hall of Fame. We wish Aynna and David many years of happiness.

H'Art for St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital

When Melissa Frame joined our part-time staff in the summer of 2009, she was also busy planning her wedding for that upcoming fall and had booked the reception at the Hall of Fame. As the day drew near, her and her fiancée decided to cancel the wedding and later ended their relationship. With over $8,000 in deposits paid to various vendors, Melissa was looking at quite a financial loss. Instead of losing the money, Melissa decided to put on a charity event for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at the Hall of Fame. On September 23, 2010, Melissa hosted the H'Art for St. Jude Children's Hospital and raised over $2,500 for the organization. We are proud to call Melissa family and inspired by her actions.

State Farm Tip-Off Classic
The 2010-11 women's collegiate basketball season will be tipped off in style as the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame teams up with State Farm, Intersport and ESPN to host the 2010 State Farm Tip-Off Classic on November 16. This year's Tip-Off Classic will feature Connecticut against Baylor in Hartford, CT (6 p.m., ESPN2).

The 2010 State Farm Tip-Off Classic marks the 18th year of the event, which has become synonymous with the start of the collegiate women's basketball season. Once again, this year's match-up will feature some of the best players, coaches and programs in the country. Connecticut coming off of their second undefeated season is looking to keep the 78 game winning streak alive. Baylor, who finished ranked fourth last year, is looking to revenge their 2010 Final Four loss against Connecticut.

During this year's game, there will be three Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductees sitting on the bench including Connecticut's head coach Geno Auriemma (Class of 2006), Baylor's head coach Kim Mulkey (Class of 2000), and Baylor's assistant coach Leon Barmore (Class of 2003).

In addition to the excitement of the game, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2011 will be formally introduced during half-time. The class includes Val Ackerman, Ruthie Bolton, Vickie Bullett, Muffet McGraw, Pearl Moore, and Lometa Odom.

2010-2011 Basketball Season

As the collegiate basketball season prepares to start, the Hall of Fame is looking forward to hosting teams travelling through the area. Last season we welcomed women's teams from Baylor University, George Washington, Texas, University of Louisville, Old Dominion, Louisiana State University, and Texas Christian. We have already had a visit from the women's team at Tusculum College. The team came by to see the Hall of Fame and to also see their teammates, Jasmine Gunn, jersey hanging in the Ring of Honor.
Is your team travelling through Knoxville this season? If so, make a point to stop by the Hall of Fame for a guided tour of our museum and some shoot-around time on the ball courts.

Field Trip Promotional Video

As the new school year begins, the Hall of Fame looks forward to hosting many of the area elementary school students for field trips and education programs. Using the NCAA FastBreak Education Programs, we teach students basic concepts using basketball to reinforce those lessons. Students get to particpate in two lessons, tour the museum, and play some basketball.
Lessons are available in the subjects of art, math, science, social studies, language arts, and physical education.
To bring these exciting programs to life, we have created a video to give you an inside look at them.
