Milestone Wins

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame would like to congratulate and honor Class of 2006 inductee Geno Auriemma as well as the Connecticut Lady Huskies basketball team on setting the all-time record for longest winning streak in NCAA college basketball history. Beginning during the Final Four in 2008 and ending in December of 2010, the streak included 2 consecutive undefeated National Championship titles. At 90 games, the streak now stands as the most consecutive wins for any college basketball team, men's or women's.

Joining exclusive company, Class of 2006 inductee Barbara Stevens reached her 800th win on December 19,2010. Head Coach of Bentley University, Stevens coached her team to a 93-60 victory over C.W. Post. The all-time wins leader for NCAA Division II women's basketball, Stevens is currently in her 25th season as Bentley University Head Coach. Congratulations to Coach Stevens for this outstanding milestone.

Just three days after Barbara Stevens reached her 800th win, Class of 2002 inductee and Stanford head coach, Tara VanDerveer, earned her 800th career win as a college basketball coach winning 100-45 against San Francisco. Interestingly, the win came against Class of 2009 WBHOF inductee Jennifer Azzi, head coach of the San Francisco Dons. The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame congratulates Coach VanDerveer on this outstanding achievement.

 Coordinated School Health Program

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame has recently formed a new partnership in Knoxville with the Coordinated School Health Program, whose mission is to improve student health and their capacity to learn through the support of families, communities, and schools. The Hall of Fame has played host to four physical activity and support sessions during their 8-week eWellness program for teachers and staff in Knox County.

Class of 2007 Hall of Fame inductee Daedra Charles-Furlow, was the guest speaker for the first session, where she spoke about balancing your daily life and taking time for yourself. In the next couple of sessions, attendees got the chance to participate in Zumba, resistance band workouts, and coaching from Jackie Ansley, CEO of Performance Training and a well known figure in women's basketball. In the last session, the Hall of Fame staff facilitated a physical activity session, in which we guided teachers through a typical physical education program used in our elementary school field trips. This partnership has been a great benefit for both organizations and we look forward to working with the Coordinated School Health Program in the future.

  Cookbook

The WBHOF is currently in the midst of an exciting project to create a Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Cookbook that will serve as a fundraiser, helping us to continue our mission to Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, and Promote the Future.

The cookbook will contain up to two hundred recipes organized in the following categories:

Appetizers & Beverages, Soups & Salads, Vegetables & Side Dishes, Main Courses, Breads & Rolls, Desserts, Cookies & Candies, and This & That.

We are still accepting recipes for the cookbook. In order to maintain balance, we ask that you submit recipes for at least two of the categories and encourage you to submit one recipe for each category.

Please e-mail your recipes to swilson@wbhof.com.
