Young School Update

Dear Families,

As you are aware the Young School Office will be returning to Young School beginning  Monday, August 21.  There have been some questions from our families asking if the mercury levels in the building have been tested and if it is safe to return.  We understand the concerns and wanted to assure our staff and families that is is safe to return to Young School.

The consultant has been monitoring the mercury levels in the gymnasium as well as adjoining areas of the building constantly since the end of the school year.  The levels  in the hallways and surrounding classrooms never reached an unacceptable level due to the planning and implementation of an intensive containment plan.

As of Thursday, August 10, all  impacted concrete and base was removed from the gymnasium.  The district has not  yet received the formal report, however, the consultant has indicated the contractor has reached the criteria needed for release from the contracted work.

The district is now moving forward with reinstalling the concrete and base and believe this work will be complete by the end of August.   Until that time, the gymnasium will remain off-limits to staff and students.  There is plastic  on gym walls, ceiling and surrounding the gym in an effort to keep the rest of the building as clean as possible as the concrete contractor completes their work.  This plastic  will remain in place to keep walls, ceiling and ventilation system of the gym, which were professionally cleaned, free of dusts and debris associated with the replacement of base and concrete.  The gymnasium will not be ready to receive the final flooring for a few months, as the concrete cures.

A full letter to families along with the final report from the consultant will be made available to our staff and families.  We thank everyone for their patience during this time.

Please use caution when visiting Young School, as the paving is not yet complete.

Wishing you a wonderful last three weeks of summer vacation.

Accommodation Bussing Deadline is TODAY!
back-school-bus.jpg

You will NOT have to complete this form unless you need to make changes to your child's bus stop due to child care issues.

If your child is going to need Accommodation Bussing for the upcoming school year, please fill out and return the Accommodation Bussing Form no later than this Friday,
August 18th, 2017.

Complete details may be found on the Township website, at the school or in the Transportation Office located in the Hopkins Building. You may also click this link to quickly access the form and complete online:   Accommodation Bussing.

This is very important news for all parents who will require their child to use a bus stop that is different from what will be assigned based on your address.

Here is an example of a situation that would require special bussing accommodations:  1.  My child has a babysitter or grandparent , providing child care, who lives in a different area of Township.  The child would have to be picked up and dropped off at the sitter's address then you would apply for accommodation bussing to have the child picked up and dropped off at the grandparent or sitter's Burlington Township address.

Also, those students who will not be using the Township school busses and will be either walkers, transported by parents or will be bussed by a Day Care, please click the  Accommodation Bussing link to submit this information to transportation. This will assist the elementary school with ensuring the correct information is encoded on the student ID tags before mailing them out in August.

If you have any questions about Accommodation Bussing, please call 387-3955 ext. 2077.

I hope you are enjoying your summer.  This is the time of year when many students are moving on to a new school.  We want to be sure that you receive all of the relevant information for your child.  It is important that subscribers update their profiles and be sure that The Falcon Flyer continues to be able to communicate with all of our parents and community members. Each building is able to communicate with their parents with information that is relevant only to that school. In order to be sure you are signed up for the correct building(s) please update your Falcon Flyer subscription TODAY! Follow the steps below to get information on updating your profile. The rollover for the new school year will be done this week.

2. Click Join

3. Click the submit button to have the update email sent to your email address.

4. Check your email, follow the prompts and select the appropriate boxes. Everyone should continue their subscription to the FalconFlyer. Remember this will give you district wide news and emergency information. Then select all schools for which you wish to receive updates.

5. If you are a resident who does not have children in the district or if you are a senior citizen in the community, there is nothing for you to do. All of your information will come through the regular FalconFlyer.

If there are no school changes for your child, there is nothing else for you to do.  I do hope that those parents who had children graduate this year, will continue their subscription to the Falcon Flyer.  You can simply deselect the specific school and get only notifications from me.  We will continue to provide our entire community with relevant community event information, senior citizen corner news, and emergency updates, in addition to the regular school news.  If you are moving out of the Burlington Township community, simply select unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter and you will be removed from our mailing list.
