USDA Announces American Grain Exports at Highest Level in Three Decades

American grain exports for fiscal year 2016 reached levels not seen in more than three decades, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) report. More than 132 million metric tons of U.S. grains were inspected and weighed for export during the past fiscal year as of September 30.  That is an increase of 5.7 percent compared to 125.3 million metric tons reported in 2015. 

"American grain exports in fiscal year 2016 are the largest in 35 years," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Corn:

Illinois | 73% of corn has been harvested compared to 81% last year | 83% is in good to excellent condition
Indiana | 52 % of corn has been harvested, which is 7 points lower than last year | 70
% is in good to excellent condition
Minnesota | 31% of corn has been harvested compared to 50% last year | 86 % is in good to excellent condition
North Dakota | 21% of corn has been harvested, compared to 31% last year | 80% of corn is in good to excellent condition
South Dakota | 31 % of corn has been harvested, which is 3 points higher than last year | 56 % of corn is in good to excellent condition
Ohio | 36 % of corn has matured, compared to 49% last year | 46% of corn is in good to excellent condition
 
Soybeans:

Illinois | 58% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 81% last year |  82% are in good to excellent condition
Indiana | 54% of soybeans are harvested, which is 21 points lower than last year | 77% are in good to excellent condition
Minnesota | 87% of soybeans are harvested, which is 8 points lower than last year | 83% are in good to excellent condition
North Dakota | 86% of soybeans are harvested, which is 6 points lower than last year | 77% are in good to excellent condition
South Dakota | 78% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 85% last year | 64% are in good to excellent condition
Ohio | 62% of soybeans are dropping leaves, which is 17 points lower than last year | 63% are in good to excellent condition
 
Winter Wheat:

Illinois | 43 % of winter wheat has been planted, which 14 points lower than last year
Indiana| 52% of winter wheat has been planted, compared to 65% last year
South Dakota | 96% of winter wheat has been planted, which 1 point lower than last year
Montana | 84% of winter wheat has been planted, compared to 94% last year
Ohio | 61 % of winter wheat has been planted, which 17 points lower than last year
 


U.S. Drought Monitor

Most of the Midwest was dry this week, allowing for harvest activities to take off in full force. Temperatures were cooler than normal over most of North Dakota with it being 6-9 degrees below normal. Looking ahead the Midwest and Great Lakes regions will see precipitation as well as portions of the southern Plains.

There are now new reports of Don in Corn as shown here in Illinois with levels of >3 ppm, Michigan with levels of >2 ppm, and Indiana with levels of >10 ppm.
