Serving Berkshire County Since 2008
 Greetings!
We are looking forward to bringing you the most beautiful, nutritious and delicious local produce this week!

As most households are starting to settle into a new Fall routine, it is especially important to feed ourselves and our family the most nutrient dense foods available.

On the right, you can see our daughter enjoying a green smoothie. We just pack the Ninja single serve cup with all sorts of produce combinations, add water and blend. You may be pleasantly surprised to see what items your child enjoys most.

Our local farms have a tremendous variety of produce right now as we still hang on to some of our summer favorites but also welcome some new Fall items (s ee below).

We've been busy the last few days catching up with all the local farms we work with ( view them all by clicking here) . Today and tomorrow these local farms will deliver their harvest to us or we pick it up direct from their fields. We then start packing your orders and deliver it to you within 48 hours.

We are so thankful we have access to this local produce, work with some of the most amazing small farms, and get to bring it straight to you. We are most appreciative for your continued support and belief in supporting a small, local business.

Apples & Pears
This weeks new apple varieties:

This apple is one of the most popular on the market today. A new American variety developed in Minnesota in 1991. They have a refreshing blend of tart and sweet, with a crisp, breaking flesh, which means that a chunk breaks off when bitten into. Orange-colored skin with a red blush. It has much larger cells than most apples, which rupture when bitten to fill the mouth with juice.

Mild sweet flavor. Juicy. Crisp, creamy yellow flesh. A great choice for snacking. It's got the mild flavor that "picky eaters" prefer, plus a striking bright yellow-red color that also makes it visually appealing. It has a sweet, crisp flavor.

Fuji apples are medium to large. The thick skin of the Fuji apple is light red with a yellow blush, and is oftentimes lined with red vertical stripes. The Fuji’s interior creamy white flesh is dense, juicy, and crisp. Low in acid, the flavor is mild yet very sweet with hints of both honey and citrus.

Taste
The Bartlett carries a true pyriform "pear shape:" a rounded bell on the bottom half of the fruit, then a definitive shoulder with a smaller neck or stem end. Bartletts are extremely aromatic pears, and have that definitive "pear flavor." The Bartlett pear has a distinct flavor and sweetness, its white flesh has a smooth, buttery texture.
Ripening
The Bartlett pear is a unique pear in that its skin color brightens as it ripens, unlike other varieties of pears that show little color change as they ripen. So, how do you prefer your Bartlett pear? Do you crave it crunchy and tart? Go for it when the skin is green! How about moist and mildly sweet? Yellow-green would be for you. Do you desire a burst of super sweet juice? Then let your pear ripen until it reaches a golden yellow hue. Remember, all pears need to ripen at room temperature!
Uses
Bartletts are much more than just a canning pear, and besides eating them fresh, you can also enjoy their wonderful flavor and smooth texture in a range of dishes. Try a sliced Bartlett atop a garden green salad with your favorite dressing. Or, simply serve freshly sliced Bartlett wedges with cheese for an appetizing snack. Always remember that any recipe calling for apples can be made using fresh pears.

Recipes
If you're not going to snack on edamame (recipe below), these recipes should help.
  1. To boil: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt it generously. Add the edamame, return to a boil and cook until bright green, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain. ...
  2. Sprinkle with a teaspoon of salt and a little or a lot of black pepper. Toss and serve hot, warm or chilled with an empty bowl on the side for the pods.
The peppers made this so tangy and yummy and addictive. Topped with parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes? Heaven
