HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Time is the most valuable thing you can spend.

Dear Parents,

I hope that each of you has had a great beginning to 2017!  Our first few days back at school were highly productive as students and teachers spent time reflecting on first semester progress and discoveries before they enthusiastically catapulted into the second half of our eventful school year!  The children returned to school with stories of wonderful family gatherings, special holiday gifts, and much more!

The start of a new year is always special. There is a feeling of renewal as we look to a new year and a new beginning, and there is a sense of excitement for making changes or adopting new habits and setting new goals.

Take some time for yourself and your child this year.

The goal of every parent is to raise a happy and well-adjusted child. However, one simple truth is often overlooked: Children from birth to adulthood need time and attention from their parents. Time that is spent with both child and parent fully engaged in an activity strengthens bonds, contributes to the emotional and physical health of you and your child, and shows children that they are valued.

Many children today live in a household where both parents are working full time. I often hear these parents share their feelings of guilt for not being with their children the moment they get out of school.  My husband and I were both full-time working professionals outside the home from the time that our children were young so I understand these feelings.  This does not mean that your child will not grow into well-adjusted and highly successful adults. A strong family finds that making opportunities for quality time is a top priority.

These are examples of relaxing and shared activities that will allow you to form stronger bonds and better relationships with your child, young or old:  Eating meals together (at least a few dinners a week) where you talk about the events of the day, sharing joys and defeats; walking the dog; riding bikes; playing outside together; reading books; doing household chores together, or spending some evenings popping corn and watching movies or having "game night."

It's not the expensive toy or electronic device that your child will remember most; it's the routine activities and time that you spend with your children to establish strong bonds that they will hold on to forever. Take the time to show your children the importance of
"Sharpening the Saw" together this year. You will both feel better.

Sending warmth and love in 2017,

Mrs. Moon

Message from the Security Manager:

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter holiday break.

Arrival:
During our first week back morning drop off has been going extremely well. I wanted to thank our parents for having students ready to exit the vehicles as they arrive at the drop off stations.

Dismissal:
Dismissal this week has been efficient; however, we still see parents putting their name placards down or away before they reach the pickup area. Please leave the hanging name placards up until your child/children are in your vehicle. As you are pulling up in front of the Gym the teachers are looking at those name placards to make sure your child is standing at that station. If you have put your placard away, the teachers must wait and ask you for your child's name if they are not ready or at the wrong station. This is one little thing we can do to speed up the process.
Remember we must all work together to ensure the safety of our students, parents, faculty, and staff at Park Maitland.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at: [email protected] or call (407) 647-3038 x248.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,
Jesse Johnson
Congratulations to 6th Graders Tennison and Ben. T hese entrepreneurs captured the attention of Mr. Jonathan Rochelle , creator of Google Docs and Google Drive  with their new company: A-Razz Tech. Mr. Rochelle  offered to personally critique their website, he is sending them a holder for their pocket computer, and he would like to personally speak to them on a Google Hangout conference call to discuss next steps for their company!

Jonathan described the boys on Twitter as "very impressive," and he was "blown away" by their innovation and how they turned their passion for personal tech into a start up company in a matter of weeks!  With  Tennison as the engineer and Ben as the internet marketer, we cannot wait to see what unfolds for these boys!
