Newsletter #2

Dear Parents,

Students and teachers have catapulted into the new school year.  The resounding energy and enthusiasm for learning, discovering, and "kindness" is felt everywhere!

The overarching goal of Park Maitland is to foster a positive, caring, and supportive community with shared values of mutual respect and kindness in which all students can thrive and grow!   We give countless opportunities to allow our students to practice acts of kindness within our school community, in the greater community of Central Florida, and across the globe!  It is our hope to teach our students to experience the reward, the power, the respect, and the truth of the simple principal:
Kindness is contagious!
Kindness in Action!
Already, in only the first week of school, brothers Chase and Jack exhibited genuine kindness and leadership.   After hearing about the great loss and devastation felt by the flood victims in Louisiana, the boys stepped up to help out!  They had a meeting with administrators to discuss their "great idea" which will influence our entire student body and inevitably help thousands of people in need!

" Ideas shape the course of history, " John Maynard Keyes.

Chase and Jack's Great Idea:  $2.00 Kindness T-Shirt Day -- Thursday, September 1st!
Chase and Jack are asking that each student and teacher bring a $2.00 donation to benefit the flood victims on our first "Kindness T-Shirt Day" of the school year.  The brothers felt that our entire school should join together to demonstrate kindness for people who need it in a big way on this very first Kindness t-shirt day! (See instructions and details for Kindness T-shirt day in the newsletter below.)*

Congratulations to Chase and Jack for "catching the kindness wave!"

Warm wishes to all,

Cindy Moon

* If your child does not have their Kindness shirt for this first Kindness T-Shirt Day, they can wear any Park Maitland t-shirt with Friday casual attire bottoms -- denim jeans, skirts, or shorts.

Congratulations to the following 6th grade students who truly "Rose to the Top" in  unsolicited helpfulness and kindness while at the Beach Bonding trip in New Smyrna.  The winning students climbed to the highest part of the house to view the coast and estuary and were recognized by their teachers and peers.

Nineteen 6th grade  students have taken over the Twitter account of Park Maitland School! These students, who meet during their elective wheel period on Thursdays with Mrs. McCulloch, have been traveling around campus photographing, teaching, and learning about different grade levels  and then tweeting out to our local and global community these exciting moments on the school's Twitter account!

The students have even created a new school hashtag:  #eaglesatwork.

Mark your calendars for "Parents' Night!"   We cannot wait to see all of you!   This fun, informative event will start promptly at 4:30 p.m. in your child's first period classroom!  The  presenters have so much great  information to share with you about  your  child's "home away from home."

" Club Eagle AfterCare" will provide special child care for Park  Maitland students who  need a place to "hang out" (so that you can enjoy the "Parents' Night" events).  Childcare is available  for only $15 per child.  Simply contact Club Eagle by email at  [email protected] or by calling 407.647.3038, ext. #159.   Children who attend AfterCare regularly  can follow their usual after school protocol and can be picked up after the "Parent's Night" event.

 KINDNESS DAYS

On the first school day of each month, the entire school will participate in "Kindness Day!"  Students that wear their "KINDNESS" tee on those days are permitted to wear their Friday casual day bottoms -- denim shorts, jeans, or skirts.  Please keep in mind that this is not required. Your child may always wear their uniform or participate in regular casual days on the last school day of each week.

If you would like to purchase a "Kindness" tee, the light blue "Scatter Kindness" (pictured right) is still available.  Simply contact the front desk to make arrangements.

We will be placing one more order for the "Catch the Kindness Wave" t-shirt next week.  If you would like to order the "Kindness Wave" tee and haven't done so already, please fill out the linked form below

Partnering with Parents
"Smart Social Media Usage"
Thursday, Sept. 8th at 8:15 a.m.

We are excited to offer many opportunities for our parents to connect this year!  Through occasional "Partnering with Parents" and "Parent Chat" sessions we can develop a closer connection between you and the school, gain better understanding of the issues you as parents are currently facing, and bring our diverse school family together to learn from one another.

This first chat will focus on "Smart Social Media Usage."  All of our parents are invited to attend this important session, but this chat is specifically designed for those with students in grades 5 and 6.  We encourage at least one parent from each 5th and 6th grade family to join us on Sept 8th!

Please park at the Enzian for this event.  Name tags will be given upon entering campus.

Grade 5 Yard Sale
"10 Months of Smiles"

Grade 5 students are having a yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 24th!  Proceeds  from the sale will benefit various charitable projects taken on by our  ambassadors!  Last year's yard sale was used to package 35,000 meals for the homeless here in Orlando and in Africa.

This year the money will be used to package 40,000 meals through Feeding Children Everywhere for those in need as well as help fund our major Ambassador program needs.

Take a look at the linked "Yard Sale" flyer    for details and a list of ways  in which you can help this incredible effort!

SCHOOL FUNDRAISER REMINDER

The Park Maitland fundraisers  are "wrapping up" soon. Students are excited about the fun prizes they can earn by collecting orders for gifts, yummy holiday treats, wrapping paper, and keepsakes!

Please note that all orders are due on September 7th!

Another great way to support Park Maitland School while you shop is by purchasing the Park Maitland Savings Pass ($20). The Savings Pass has replaced cumbersome "school coupon books" of the past.  Savings opportunities include: Jeremiah's, Francesco's, Mellow Mushroom, Yogurtland, and Athena...to name a few!

If you have lost your fundraiser packet or order form, please email Ms. Belle Warren at [email protected].
