Let peace and kindness begin with me....

Dear parents,

Feelings of  gratitude and pride  were prevalent as  older and younger students joined together to participate in genuine acts of kindness on Global Peace and Kindness Matters Day at Park Maitland this week!

There is nothing more wonderful than seeing children earn money to buy items to make lives better for others!  These "items" were the 200 backpacks purchased for Killarney Elementary and were filled with school supplies and heartfelt notes of kindness by each and every student!

The video clip below- was background for the "packing" and "peace"  activities.  I think that the words and pictures say it all!

In "peace,"

Message from the Security
Manager:

Last Wednesday afternoon, we welcomed Mr. Joe Markham,  Executive Director of Security at Pinecrest Preparatory School.  Mr. Markham has won countless awards during his time as a police officer and volunteer fire fighter and has gained national accolades for his campus safety initiative.  Under Mr. Markhams's direction, our faculty and staff participated in a training exercise and made some incremental changes to better prepare ourselves in the event of an emergency. We are always striving to do everything we can to ensure the safety of the students, parents, faculty and staff.

I also wanted to take this time to thank all of our parents for making an effort to arrive on campus 5 to 10 minutes earlier for morning drop-off. We are working to make sure that we have adequate staff to fill all of the stations to reduce your wait time.  However with 350 cars arriving on campus there is no way to avoid some waiting during drop-off.  Please remember these simple guidelines that will make drop-off quick and efficient.
  • Please have your children, their bags and lunches ready to exit your vehicle as you arrive at the station. Being prepared to exit can speed up the process.
  • If you are coming north on Orlando Avenue please try and merge with traffic in the curb lane as soon as possible instead of passing all the other parents and cutting in.
  • By the same token those parents in the curb lane should be courteous to those needing to merge.
  • Please remember to embrace our theme this year of KINDNESS. Let's all set a good example for our students and work together to start our day on the right foot.
  • Do not text, read emails or talk on cell phones while in the carpool lines.  We still have some parents using cell phone during carpools. Please stop!
Please continue to be patient and "KIND" If you have any questions please feel free to email me at: jjohnson@parkmaitland.org or call (407) 647-3038 x248.

Thanks you in advance for your cooperation,
Jesse Johnson

The Kindness Global Cardboard Challenge is Coming!

On Friday, September 30th students of all grade levels will take part in the Imagination Foundation's annual and global Cardboard Challenge! We are calling our event Kindness Global Cardboard Challenge! Students will be tasked to build a kind and creative structure in their lunch areas out of cardboard, tubing, recycled materials, duct tape, and more! Our 6th grade student leaders will facilitate the collaborative design groups of younger students!  T his is a true school-wide  STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) experience!

This event is inspired by the short film and actual event, Caine's Arcade. Caine is a young boy in California who built a cardboard arcade and inspired a generation! It is truly a celebration of each child's creativity and the role our school community and beyond can play in fostering it! Stay tuned for our cardboard structures that will be lined up at carpool on the afternoon of September 30th!

Follow our event and the Global Cardboard Challenges happening around the world on Twitter at #cardboardchallenge and #parkmaitland. For more information check out:

We are in need of the following items for the upcoming school-wide Cardboard Challenge.  We would appreciate any donations for this exciting event!  Please drop off items at the gym in the Green Room behind the stage by Wednesday, September 28th.

Large cardboard boxes -- (used Amazon boxes)

PVC pipes

Gigantic appliance or furniture size boxes

Assorted pieces of rubber, plastics, or Styrofoam

Zip ties & Duct tape

Cardboard tubing (from paper towels, toilet paper, etc.)

Early Dismissal Day
Thank you for your cooperation on our first Early Dismissal Day. We want to remind our new families who have more than one child attending Park Maitland -- If you have a dismissal "A" child that needs to go home after dismissal "B," please send in a note to that effect. We will have supervision in the gym for those children.

Our next Early Dismissal Day will be Friday, November 11th.

Last Chance for School Fundraiser

Our coupon tag fundraiser is winding down but there is still time to purchase one if you have not.  These coupon "key tags" have replaced cumbersome coupon books of the past.  Money from the sales will benefit our Arts, Sports, and Ambassador programs. Coupon key tags are available at the front desk for $20.

Partnering with Parents
Mark your calendar for some very interesting chats on the horizon.  The coming sessions will be broken into four different events based on age groups so that you, as parents, get the most specific information relevant to your child or children.   All chats will begin at 8:15 a.m.

K4 - K5 -- Wednesday, Sept. 28
Grades 5-6 -- Monday, Oct. 10
Grades 1-2 -- Monday, Oct. 24
Grades 3-4 -- Wednesday, Oct. 26

K-4 Admissions Screening
If you have a rising K-4 for the 2017-18 school year you can get them screened NOW!  As long as they are 3 1/2 years old there is no need to wait until our official screening day on Saturday, January 7th.
