Newsletter #9

Dear Park Maitland Parents,

At Park Maitland, we strive to address a rapidly changing world filled with fantastic, challenging new problems as well as exciting new possibilities.  Yet at the same time we remain steadfast to our values and traditions.  We are a school community that embraces a challenge, welcomes innovation, charts a responsible course, and diligently moves forward as we continue to set sail toward continued success.  We are constantly pondering ways to remain a great school for the future leaders of tomorrow.  With each new school year, we grow and improve. We analyze, critique, and develop. Great schools are always looking forward!

In keeping with our goal of providing the best possible education for your child, we continue to seek out ways to enhance and improve our program.  As we begin the ongoing process of revisiting our goals and visions in our school's Strategic Plan, we invite your input.  To assure that all of our constituents feel that we are in alignment with our school's mission and core values, we are providing a survey to families which you will receive via email this evening.   Your input is highly valuable as we partner with you on educating your most prized possession!

I remained honored to have the opportunity to lead the plan's charge as we continue on with thoughtful, deliberate, and exciting plans for our school.

Sincerely,

Cindy Moon

Park Maitland's Veteran's Day Celebration

We would like to honor our veterans by inviting them to attend a special "Veteran's Day" assembly on Friday, Nov. 11th!  If you or your family members that are veterans would like to attend this special event, please contact Ms. Lauren Kuharske by email at  [email protected]  or by calling 407.647.3038, ext.160 by Wednesday, Oct. 26th so that we may send them a formal invitation by mail.

We wish that we had the space to invite all of our families, but  space is very limited during assemblies, and we must limit attendance to veterans and their families only.

Maker Faire Orlando is a community-organized, family-friendly celebration featuring local do-it-yourself science, art, rockets, robots, crafts, technology, music, hands-on-activities, and more. It's an event where people show what they are making and share what they are learning.

T ickets can be purchased online at  www.makerfaireorlando.com . Maker Faire Orlando will be held at the Central Florida Fairground this year, as it has out grown its previous location of the Orlando Science Center. We hope to see you there!

My name is Joan ie Forbes and I am teaching the art classes for 3rd through 5th grades.  During these first three months, we have been enjoying looking and learning about the land and animals in Africa. The fifth graders were able to see what an actual hut in Ethiopia looks like by watching my personal video where my grand daughter was born.  They were then able to recreate their own miniature huts showing the surrounding living conditions using red air dry clay and various natural resources.  The fifth graders also learned about Serengeti sunsets and painted them on burlap.  Our fourth graders took a look at the wide variety of birds found in the tropical rainforest in Africa.  They completed their own bird drawings using water soluble oil pastels.  The third graders were able to choose either a giraffe or a zebra to recreate on water color paper and then fill them in using the oil pastels.  Next, they painted a landscape and their animals were then mounted in the middle as part of their "African Grassland Scenes". We hope you will take a minute and visit the hall way outside the art room to view the "African Huts" as well as the "Birds of Africa".  You can also view the  burlap paintings and the 3rd grade landscapes in the front office.  I have enjoyed filling in for Mrs. Unell while she has been on her maternity leave.  Even more, I have loved the opportunity to work with these very talented artists here at Park Maitland.

K-4 PIRATE DAY

Partnering with Parents
Mark your calendar for some very interesting chats on the horizon. The coming sessions will be broken into four different events based on age groups so that you, as parents, get the most specific information relevant to your child or children.   All chats will begin at 8:15 a.m.
