Slow Food Philadelphia

Slow Food is a non-profit member supported International movement, founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Greetings!

"What does my membership to Slow Food represent?"

Our local Slow Food chapter provides you a guide to all things local through education, support, and conviviality.  We support local producers and their support network; family owned businesses in our region that care about the quality of the goods they produce and help to reduce our carbon footprint.  We also support people and organizations that are making a difference through the media, fighting hunger, and providing education.  Our chapter is part of an International Movement inspired by an Italian journalist Carlo Petrini, with a commitment to community and the environment.  We understand the importance of cultural food heritage and honor the farmer, the fisherman, the vineyard grower, the cheese maker, beekeeper, and the cake baker.  We stress the importance of maintaining healthy soils and seas for generations in the future.

Please take a moment to visit our International site and our USA site to see the work that is being done to protect our ecosystems and our biodiversity.  Here is a link to our 2011 Almanac, a digital version of our just released edition Slow Food magazine that talks about the amazing work that your membership helps to support.
