The Semla -
The Most Swedish Pastry There Is?
As many of you might know, Swedes like to have traditions that involves sweet food or pastries. The Semla is quite possibly, the most Swedish pastry there is.
Swedes love the Semla, and pretty much all of January and February is dedicated to the indulgence of this particular pastry.
The official day of the Semla, Fettisdagen (Fat-Tuesday), is however not until on Tuesday, February 17th this year.
The last few years, many different versions of the Semla has been invented, (including the recently renowned Semmel-wrap), but the original version is a sweet cardamom bun filled with almond paste and whipped cream, topped off with powdered sugar.
Learn more about the Semla, and how to make your own one here. |
