Project of the Month: Sweden's Ice Hotel |
|

In honour of winter and the new year we would like to highlight Sweden's
ICEHOTEL 2016
in
Jukkasjärvi which has opened for this winter season and is a marvel of construction and artistry.
According to ICEHOTEL's
website, every year since the original hotel was created in 1989, artists, designers, architects and others have converged on
Jukkasjärvi, Sweden to carve and sculpt the hotel using ice and snow from water that originates in the Arctic Circle. For this season's hotel opening, ICEHOTEL allowed the public to submit their ideas for various themes.
Each 'art suite' is designed and constructed by a different team.
In addition to the art suites, there are also larger luxury suites available.
Of course, with ice being the transitory construction material that it is, every year provides an opportunity for change and innovation as the hotel melts and is re-designed and sculpted all over again.
For more information, photos and videos of the build - including ICEHOTEL's history - visit their
website
or their
Facebook page
