Incentives: Part of the economic development puzzle
Dan Johnson, Richardson's new city manager, recently spoke to the Chamber's Public Policy Committee about using incentives in economic development to help increase understanding of the practice.
During the past few decades, Richardson has grown to a powerhouse in attracting high-tech, communications based, businesses to its Telecom Corridor® area. Save the date: New Teacher's Recognition Aug. 17
The Chamber has been helping the community honor teachers for more than 50 years. Join us this year for the 54th Annual New Teachers Recognition Friday, Aug. 17 at the Hyatt Regency North Dallas-Richardson (note new location). Registration will open next week.
This popular event honors teachers who are new to the Richardson Independent School District. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Mary Ann Rankin, CEO of the National Math and Science Initiative.
More than 350 teachers are expected to attend. Because of the large number of teachers, elementary school teachers will be honored at a breakfast (7:30-9 a.m.) and junior and senior high at lunch (noon-1:30 p.m.).
Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event. Sponsors cover the cost of hosting the teachers. Without sponsorships, this event could not happen.

Chamber members spur economic development
by John Jacobs, EVP, Economic Development
Richardson is rightly regarded as one of the most successful cities in North Texas when it comes to economic development. MCI, Cisco Systems, Texas Instruments, Fujitsu, Samsung, MetroPCS, Fossil, Blue Cross are just some of the great companies that have relocated or expanded here. Year in and year out for decades, Richardson has attracted corporate clients, well-paying jobs and millions in taxable value to the community. In addition to that, the city has also brought in scores of small- and medium-sized companies, some of which have become giants, like Cyrix Semiconductor, Monterey Networks (Cisco), Convex Computer ( Hewlett-Packard). So what's going on here?
