A Letter from our Principal

Dear St. Bernard’s Families,

The season of Advent begins on Sunday and your children will be learning how to prepare for the coming of the Lord. But it is not enough to learn from books; we learn best from the example of others, first at home and then at school. That is why our teachers attended a spiritual retreat last Monday at St. Joachim Catholic
Church in Lockeford. We reflected upon the importance of prayer in our own lives, celebrated Mass with Father Roni, and shared our faith with one another. Our staff is committed to help you form the mind and soul of your children, teaching them how to be respectful and kind in their daily lives. After all, that is the main reason why our school exists: to help children become who God created them to be. Not an easy task, but a great responsibility, possible only with God’s help and parental support. As Father Chad used to remind us: we are in the business of making saints and leading children to Heaven.

Next week the children in 4th through 8th grade will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as confession. We are blessed to have parish priests who make themselves available to serve the spiritual needs of our children. Encourage your children to take advantage of this opportunity to be reconciled with God and one another to begin the season of Advent with a clean heart.

In the midst of the busyness of this season and the shopping frenzy that tries to overtake our lives, I invite you to focus on what really matters. Live out this Advent as a family, praying together and helping those in need. Please keep in your prayers Mrs. Pombo, who is on medical leave and will not be returning to the school office until April.

Have a peaceful Advent!
Patty Paredes

This year’s Student Council will be collecting for Box Tops Education Program. It is a very easy way to help our school earn money. To help our school, just look for the pink Box Tops on products, clip them, and tape/glue them to the collection posters that are sent home.

Our goal is $1,000

Box Tops can be found on hundreds of products from brands like:
