JCHAC Newsletter
December 2013

The first dusting of snow has fallen on Joshua Creek setting the scene for the quickly approaching holidays. The Gallery has been transformed and is wearing its festive finery. Awaiting your visit is a hot beverage and sweet treats. Thoughtfully chosen for the holiday season is the solo exhibition of resident artist Louise Laroche. Gift yourself some quality time for a visit. Engage your  imagination as you are transported into the art-full world of Louise.

This is the time of the year we pause to reflect and honour our individual traditions and rituals. We look forward to your visit so that we may personally extend our deepest gratitude to all for your support. You are the reason this "Pocket of Eden" exists and thrives.

There are a few dates in December and January that the Gallery is closed so please check dates as you plan. Workshops and classes are also adjusted during the month of December and are listed under their descriptions that follow.

From all of us at Joshua Creek, may this season deliver the moments and experiences that carry you with joy, love, peace and health into 2014.

Merry Christmas and the Happiest of Holidays Everyone!

Christmas Angel

Sincerely,

Sybil Rampen

CURRENT EXHIBITION
OFFERINGS
 Louise Laroche Solo Exhibition

November 30, 2013 - January 12, 2014
Opening Tea Party: December 1, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

"Offerings"  is a solo  exhibition by  Joshua Creek's    resident  artist,  Louise Laroche.  The exhibition dates in the  Gallery  span the Christmas and New Year season.

Louise's work is evocative with roots in the ancient culture of 16th century Quebec. She draws inspiration from nature and her surroundings. "I like the interaction, the tension between juxtaposed fragments. These form multiple spaces within each collage. I like to think my work stimulates contemplation and awareness."

Louise is a graduate of Fine Art, Laval University and has spent the last 20 years searching  for her own pathway of printmaking, guided by her passion for fragmentation.

A special invitation to "Meet the artist and Potluck Lunch" will be extended to the

Friends of Joshua Creek

to attend on December 15. Friends will receive an e-mail with the details regarding this exclusive event.

JCHAC Legacy

My German Expressionist teacher Martin Bloch said "I can only show you how to do it. Take what you will." Over the decades my art has evolved going from plateau to plateau. The trick is to keep climbing.

I believe every individual has a residue of life experience that can be made visible and has value.

My lessons are designed to encourage art, to provide awareness of self with simple tools that allow creativity to escape thought the cracks of criticism, self- doubt, angst, perfectionism and the grade three teacher.

Every drawing, every painting is a record of a moment in time. Even a simple continuous line doodle set in the context of NOW, or realism, or abstraction, and the innocence of a child's drawing can be impactful. The genuine sharing of what is seen, experienced, felt, can have meaning, not only for the artist but also for the viewer. Every beloved painting speaks from its wall. To adorn one's life with a chosen collection of paintings is enrichment. Art begins with the self, with the possibility of becoming a lasting legacy.

Sincerely,

Sybil Rampen

Gallery

We are presently taking proposals for future exhibitions in the Art Gallery. JCHAC Gallery is the home to ten shows each year with each exhibition running for one month to six weeks. The focus of the Gallery is to be a venue for emerging artists. Should a showing by a single artist seem daunting consider an exhibition of a collective of three or four artists.

We look forward to hearing from you and discussing opportunities. Please contact Bill Hewitt by e-mail or call 905-257-4730.

Tea Time at JCHAC

An invitation is extended to interested groups who are  considering looking for a spot to gather and enjoy some "tea time" in a welcoming and engaging atmosphere.
