11:00 am: Classic Worship Service

Sermon: "Who do you say that I am?"
Scripture: Mark 8
Preacher: Rev. Hanna Peterson Shearer
Lenten Devotionals
Station Three
Christ falls for the first time.

Reading : Philippians 2: 1—11

Reflection:
It’s hardly surprising that Jesus fell consider how heavy the cross was, not just in weight, but in carrying all our sins. Yet He did it. He took the cross on his shoulders. A journey of punishment and torture. The pain he’s already enduring. The agony to come. Imagine how it felt to fall.

Prayer:
Lord, you embraced and shouldered Your cross, but your body was weak.
Your Body is still weak: we, your people, shrink from the weights of suffering.
In our weakness, Lord we pray your will be done. Amen

Activity:
Sit quietly. As you take the weight off your feet, realize he didn’t have this option. What a gift rest feels. How do you feel about the perseverance he showed just to get to Calvary?

Description:
The level of injustice in the world is staggering. The church can respond. International Justice Mission (IJM) has rescued thousands of people from oppression and violence. IJM also partners with thousands of churches to help them live out the mandate of Isaiah 1:17: to seek justice, rescue the oppressed and care for orphans and widows. The God of Justice is a discussion-based curriculum from IJM that explores the biblical narrative of justice throughout the whole of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. Through the participatory study of Scripture, we will explore God's call to engage in bringing about justice on earth. Prepare to have your heart and mind engaged, to be instructed by Scripture, and to be challenged by real-life stories of people freed by the God of justice.
