A Note From the Vicar
Gnosticism fights against Christianity! As a society, our Christian faith has come up against many challenges, but the Lord has upheld the truth that He is risen. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit, we have seen many come to join our family of God. We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ that are being persecuted all over the world and may God strengthen them. We in the United States might not be going through what the eastern world is going through, but we definitely have things fighting against the will of God. This week, we are going to talk about Gnosticism, which is one of the things fighting against God's will.
Have you seen the movie the "Matrix"? The Matrix was one of my favorite movies growing up in the 90s and still today many love watching this movie. However, did you know that the movie depicted Gnosticism beliefs? Well, do not worry, do not feel like now you have to hate the "Matrix" or get rid of all your movies that share this ideology. All we want to do for you is to make you knowledgeable about the beliefs, so that you can have a strong Christian response to the teachings of Gnosticism  ....continue reading

GROWING TOGETHER

Hit the Road with LASM!
Are you looking for a meaningful summer (and beyond) volunteer opportunity? LASM is seeking drivers to help keep up with the growing demand for its medical transportation ministry.   LASM Transportation Ministers accompany senior adults to their medical appointments, providing a much needed service and perhaps even more importantly the gift of companionship to our older adult riders. A perfect opportunity for newly retired individuals, part-time workers, stay-at-home moms/dads and teachers on summer vacation! Contact LASM Director, Katie Weintraub at 314-647-4591 or [email protected]   to learn more and request a volunteer application.

Congratulations
to Hayden Lucas and our Deaconess Rebekah Karolus who will be married on June 23 rd .
STEWARDSHIP

Congregation Offering for Convention Collected May 27 & June 3
Under the banner of "Faithful Witnesses" (Isaiah 44:8), we'll soon gather as a district in convention for the twentieth time to celebrate all that God has done among us and ask His blessing and guidance as we plan for the future. We look forward to gathering with pastors and congregation members from across the state June 10-12 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia.
A highlight of the Missouri District Convention will be the opening worship service with Holy Communion on Sunday, June 10. We invite all congregations to participate in the special offering that will be held in connection with this worship service. It's an opportunity to invest in the work God has called us to do and to encourage one another as "Faithful Witnesses."
Fifty percent of the convention offering will go to support Synod's full-time, career missionaries from Missouri:
* Rev. Jonathan and Anita Clausing, Kenya
* Rev. Micah and Deaconess Dorothy Glenn, Ferguson, MO
* Josh and Coco Lange, Shanghai
* Erin Mackenzie, Dominican Republic
* Rev. Duane and Elizabeth Meissner, Belize
* Rev. Gary and Stephanie Schulte, Burkina Faso
* Rev. Micah and Robin Wildauer, Togo
The remaining fifty percent will support the Plus One Initiative. One third of congregations within our district have committed to reaching out to their communities in one new way. Funds collected will support the coaching and implementation of these new Gospel-sharing ventures.
Today is the day we're encouraging congregations to collect an offering from members and remember the upcoming convention in prayer. If you would like to participate, you may have your pastoral or lay delegate bring your congregation's offering to the convention worship service.

Christ Memorial Productions invites you to attend a Free Event Featuring Remedy Drive on Friday, June 22
beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Christ Memorial at 5252 S. Lindbergh Blvd.  This event is sure to appeal to all ages, with performances by four different groups and free refreshments.  Attend any or all of the evening's performances.  Details and registration at CMPShows.org.  The plans for the evening take us from a family centered performance by Cicoff, who will use physical theater to support his inspirational message.  Next, we will hear from the powerful vocals of Exodus, followed by contemporary Christian music of the GEN52 band.  The evening will conclude with Remedy Drive, a Dove Award nominated, indie rock and roll band with three songs that have been #1 on Christian Radio.  From Nashville, the group regularly tours the country, including performances at LCMS National Youth Gatherings.

The Lutheran Resale Shop will be holding a garage sale
at the bus barn across from Salem Lutheran Church, 5180 Parker Road, Blackjack, Mo.  We will have the normal garage sale items plus a lot of jewelry, furniture, electronics and several items of vintage farm tools.    The sale will be June 8th from 8 am to Noon and from 6-8 pm and June 9th.  As always, the proceeds from this sale will be going to our two charities, Lutheran Family and Children's Services and to Lutheran Senior Services for the residents Breeze Park and the former Hidden Lake Retirement Communities.  If you have any questions, you can call the Shop at 314-389-9970, Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
