Keynote speaker Dr. Patrick Arbore will talk about Senior Empowerment. He will be followed by an expert's panel titles "
Quality of Life: taking care of the body and soul"
presenting effective ways to improve health and wellness through alternative medicine, nutrition, lifelong learning and cognitive fitness, medicinal cannabis, art, and exercise.
Dr. Arbore is a winner of the Jefferson Silver Award and a nationally recognized speaker and expert in the field of elderly suicide prevention and grief services. Self-empowered aging means taking control of one's life, learning, updating and improving skills, taking risks, building confidence, assuming power over personal circumstances, and developing the resilience to overcome inevitable challenges to come.
The expert panel will discuss "Quality of Life: taking care of the body and soul." The panelists will be Dr. Vera Singleton from Lafayette, a member of the California Naturopathic Doctor's Association, Jennifer Monahan from U.C. Berkeley Osher Lifelong Learning Institute talking about cognitive fitness, Stuart Moore long time senior fitness practitioner, Arcadia Wellness representatives talking about medical and legal aspects of medicinal cannabis, and Elana O'Loskey presenting "Art at 80".

News from MOFD and the County

Stephen Healy, Fire Chief of the Moraga-Orinda Fire District will be stepping down on September 20, 2017. In connection with a search for his replacement, the Board of Directors of the District is in the process of preparing a position description for the Fire Chief.
As a part of that process, a public workshop has been set for September 27th at 7 PM at the Moraga Library in Moraga so that the residents of the District may offer their views on the background and experience, as well as the personal and professional qualities of the new Fire Chief, and the issues likely to confront the District during the tenure of the new Chief.

Peaceful Parent, Happy Siblings: How to Stop the Fighting and Raise Friends for Life
. This is a much-anticipated follow-up to her talk last year, which had more than 350 attendees. This year's event will take place on October 11, 2017, at the Orinda Intermediate School, from 7:00 to 9:00pm.
