The Voice of Business
Policy Success at the Canadian Chambers of Commerce Annual Convention

Chair Rosetta Taylor and chamber colleagues
CEO Brenda Johnson, Chair Rosetta Taylor and chamber colleagues
The Spruce Grove & District Chamber of Commerce once again represented our business community at the annual  Canadian Chamber of Commerce's annual general (AGM) and convention, held September 17th - 19th in Regina, SK. The local Chamber of Commerce submitted two resolutions; both updates to 2013 policies that were to fall off the books of the Canadian Chambers of Commerce: Deferral of Capital Gains Taxation and Expanding Options for Canada's Private Educational Institutions.  Both policies will be posted to our website with our Press Release on Wednesday, September 28th.

The policies submitted by the Spruce Grove & District Chamber of Commerce passed along with 62 other policies, with one policy withdrawn and six others defeated. There were a total of 70 policies submitted for debate amongst the 344 Chamber of Commerce represented. Once policies are passed, they are carried as a position by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and are advocated for on behalf of the local and national Chamber network.

Regina was the perfect host for the annual convention and the delegates were able to experience and tour "Depot", the RCMP training centre while attending, as well as entertain numerous speakers and presenters on a full range of subjects from the U.S. upcoming election to Canadian trade barriers and trade agreements.

Members were inspired by the story Jordan and Joel of Carvel Electric shared at last week's Chamber on Tap. For those that were unable to attend, here are a couple quotes that may inspire you as well:  "As a business owner, your DNA; your vision has to be built into the systems. Inspire (employees) to take your vision, put it into the system and operate it."  - Jordan Jolicoeur

Businesses would be more successful if they did this more: "Allow people to be themselves and express their ideas. You never know, they may have a better idea than you"  - Joel Jolicoeur
