"Working with Hand Painted Yarn

&

How to Best Show Off Your Multi-Colored Skeins."

With

 Jennifer Miller

@ Tempe Yarn

We just got in part of Jennifer Miller's hand painted yarn for her trunk show on Monday and Tuesday (5/12 & 13), and they are amazing.  Here is a sample:

Just think you could be part of Jennifer's class on Monday May 12th, on Working with Handpainted Yarn & How to Best Show Off Your Multi-Colored Skeins.

This two hour class (from 3:30 to 5:30) on May 12th will amp up your
colo confidence and knitting successes. The cost of the class is only $25.

You'll learn how to:
-visualize how a handpainted, multi-color skein will knit up, how to work with long & short color repeats, & explore the stitches that avoid color pooling.

-you'll practice learning several stitch patterns & their variations that show off multi-colored yarn, including chevron; linen stitch; mitered square; feather & fan.

-you'll leave with beautiful illustrations of handpaints, & confidence & resources to create lovely pieces on your own!

This is an intermediate class, intended for students who are relatively proficient knitters. Participants should be able to knit, purl, yarn over, ssk, k2tog, ktb, and double decrease.

For the class you'll need a skein or two of handpainted fingering weight yarn, ready to knit (wound into a ball or cake), straight or double pointed needles (size 4, 5, 6). All supplies are available at Tempe Yarn.

The class is $25 so call 480 557 9166 to sign up!

With summer right around the corner, Arizona Yarn & Fiber is offering an opportunity for all ages to explore and learn as they journey through the world of Fibers.

Discovering Fiber Arts

This four day program is designed for ages 4 to 7 and will include hands on activities that teach about fibers, yarns and how to use them through small manageable projects to take home and show off.  Discovering Fiber Arts will be held on Monday through Thursday, June 9, 10, 11 & 12th, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm.  The cost, including all materials, is $50 per child.

Fiber Arts Exploration

We didn't want the 8+ group to miss out on the Fiber Arts projects, so we ramped them up a bit to make them more sophisticated for the older child and are choosing projects which will keep their interest and challenge them.  The Fiber Arts Exploration will be on Monday through Thursday, June 23, 24, 25 & 26th, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.  The cost, including all material, is $50 per child.

Space is very limited, so call 480-917-9276, or stop by Arizona Yarn, to register or for more information.

Arizona Yarn Crochet Alongs

Every Tuesday from noon to 2 pm, we'll be doing a Market Bag Crochet Along.  Grab your hooks and come join Tiffany every Tuesday for two fun hours of crocheting.  The Market Bag was a TYF Mystery Crochet Along so it's a perfect pattern for exploring new stitches.  Just when you conquer one, there is another one around the corner keeping the project exciting.  Drop in ahead of time for your pattern and yarn selection.

Block of the Month Knit-Along @ Arizona Yarn

treasury of knitting patterns

Every Friday from noon to 2 pm, we'll be exploring the fantastic options in Barbara Walker's Treasury of Knitting Patterns book.  Lori is going to choose a stitch pattern each month for the next 12 months.  Every Friday, she will be at the Arizona Yarn KAL table to assist, teach or coach you through the knitting pattern.

You have the option of coming as many Fridays in the month as your schedule allows to work on your Knitted Block.

Each First Friday of the month, she will introduce that month's Mystery Block.

After 12 months you will have enough blocks to make a small afghan.  We will even teach you choices on how to assemble them.

Drop in ahead of time or call to order your book (the book is required to participate in this KAL), if you don't already own one.

Survival Lessons
By Alice Hoffman

One of America's most beloved writers, and self-proclaimed process knitters,  shares her suggestions for finding beauty in the world even during the toughest times.

Survival Lessons provides a road map of how to reclaim your life from this day forward, with ways to re-envision everything-from relationships with friends and family to the way you see yourself. As Alice Hoffman says, "In many ways I wrote Survival Lessons to remind myself of the beauty of life, something that's all too easy to overlook during the crisis of illness or loss. I forgot that our lives are made up of equal parts of sorrow and joy, and that it is impossible to have one without the other. I wrote to remind myself that despite everything that was happening to me, there were still choices I could make."
