Message from the PTO President
Dear Valley Forge Elementary School Families:

I hope everyone had a productive couple of weeks! Our children have settled in nicely at school and it is heartwarming to see how much they love their school.

Please don't forget to register for the 5K Run/1 Mile Walk. I have already registered for it! It is one of our big fundraisers. So, please support it by registering. I would like to thank our Gold Sponsors - Whole Foods and Sila - for supporting the school in such a magnanimous way.

Our after-school clubs began this Monday, September 26th. Things went very smoothly! Our children love after school clubs. I would like to thank Amanda Mlinar for taking this over! We would like more parent run clubs, so if you are interested in running a club or have ideas for a club, please let us know.

Before I sign off, I would like to remind you of our upcoming General PTO meeting (October 6th at 7pm in the Large Group Room). As part of the PTO, you are invited to attend. We will discuss our events, clubs, Scary Gym, etc. We would like to have your feedback and suggestions and I look forward to seeing you!

As always, feel free to email me with any questions, suggestions or comments at ptopres@vfespto.org

Much love,

Rujuta Mandelia

Mother Goose Is Coming To Kindergarten!
Friday, October 7, 2016, 10:00 AM & 12:45 PM

The Cultural Arts Committee has invited a special guest to visit with our morning and afternoon Kindergarten students on Friday, October 7th. Mother Goose will join the students to share her alphabet rhymes!  The Kindergartners will hear a different rhyme for each letter of the alphabet. The recitation of nursery rhymes provides an important vehicle to expose young children to alliteration, assonance, rhythm and rhyme.  The children will have lots of fun participating in story and action rhymes with Mother Goose and her stuffed pet goose.  This assembly is generously sponsored by the Valley Forge Elementary PTO.
Coming Soon:  Book Fair 2016!

Mark your calendars for the PTO's annual Book Fair to be held in the Large Group Room. The Fair will be open from Tuesday, October 18 through Monday, October 24  (the night of Scary Gym.) Volunteer opportunities will be announced shortly and the more the merrier!

Walk/Bike to School Day 2016

Tired of the same bus ride or drive to school? Change things up and join us for Walk or Bike to School Day on Tuesday, October 11, 2016!  This fun, healthy event is not only good for you but also for the earth.  If you live too far from the school to walk or bike, consider parking on a side street and walking or biking from there!  Volunteers are needed to help as students arrive at school.  Please sign up here.  Any questions, contact Sabrina Payonk sabrinalin56@yahoo.com.

The Publishing Center Needs Your Help

Last year was yet another record-setting year for VFES's Publishing Center! Nearly 100% of our 1st through 4th graders submitted stories, and our volunteers assembled a whopping 891 books!  In order to continue offering a Publishing Center program of this magnitude (the largest such program remaining in the T/E/ elementary schools), we need your help .  For those of you unfamiliar with the Publishing Center, 1st through 4th graders write and illustrate original stories, and a group of dedicated parent volunteers help turn those creations into hardbound books.  Our staff consists entirely of parent volunteers.   There are a variety of volunteer positions available (including typing, proofreading, about the author, titles and laminating, covers, and assembly).  Many areas allow you to volunteer from home, while others give you the opportunity to be on-site in school.  We are also incredibly flexible - you can volunteer when, and as much time as, your schedule allows.
If you are interested in volunteering in the Publishing Center or if you would like more information, please email Tarin Cataldo or Brookie White at vfepubcntr@tesd.net   Thank you!
Volunteers Needed

We are still looking for volunteers to chair or coordinate a few of our great programs at VFES.  Open positions include:
Dental Clinic Representative
2nd Grade Round Robin Coordinator
Kindergarten Yearbook Coordinator
1st Grade Yearbook Coordinator
Spring Fair:  Dinner (2), Entertainment (2), Games (2), Fun Food (2), Parking, Tickets (2) and Volunteers (2)

If you are interested in any of these opportunities or have questions about what's involved, please email Amanda Ivory  amandaivory@comcast.net for more information.  Thanks for your consideration!
Gratitude Corner
Thank you to Moji Ghanbarpour, Amanda Miller, Kathy Bo-Yu, Allie Richardson, Jaclyn Wahlers and Susan McGowan for their assistance during Health Screening Days last week.  The nurses and teachers appreciated how quickly everyone went through the screening stations with all the extra hands!

Thank you to Moji Ghanbarpour, Allie Richardson and Linda Schubert for helping to get everyone "camera ready" for School Picture Day last week! Can't wait to see all those smiles when the pictures get delivered!

Thank you to Moji Ghanbarpour, Andrea Sau, Julie Soura, Tarin Cataldo, Linda Schubert, Allie Richardson and Ann Marie Marburg for their assistance in the cafeteria as the children get settled into the lunch time routines.  We greatly appreciate the extra hands each day!

Community News
Girl Scout Troop 4143 (VFES 3rd grade) will be raising funds for a water filtration system for the school at the Falcon 5K on Sunday, October 9.

Look for them handing out bottled water (courtesy of the PTO) at the finish line, and prepare to learn some amazing facts about water, and help us reach our goal for a new filtration system to benefit the entire school.

With so many issues about clean water lately, this project is proudly supported by VFES and the PTO. Troop 4143 is happily leading the charge for fresh, filtered water.

We hope you will too!
