Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a graduate of Wellesley College, Kathy has worked as a teacher, journalist, author and film and television producer in England, Africa and the United States.
She is the founder of Creative Visions, a 501c3 organization that supports "creative activists" who use
media and the arts for social impact.
CV was inspired by the life of Kathy's son, Dan Eldon - artist, adventurer and activist, who was killed in 1993 while on assignment for Reuters in Somalia.
Kathy is also the Founder of Creative Visions Productions, which produces impact media including award-winning documentaries, series and features.
She is the author of 17 books, including popular cookbooks, eating and travel guides, and her new memoir, In the Heart of Life, published by Harper One. Kathy has been featured in many books, and on countless television and radio programs, including several appearances on Oprah. She is a sought-after public speaker who has given three TEDx talks. Kathy lives in Malibu with her husband, Michael Bedner, next to the Dan Eldon Center of Creative Activism.
