Eduardo Bonilla-Silva

On the May 2nd edition of The Jordan Journal, radio host Howard Jordan interviews Eduardo Bonilla-Silva on race in North America and the Latino community. A self-described "Blican" (Black Puerto Rican),  Professor Bonilla-Silva is Chair of the Sociology Department at Duke University.

He gained visibility in the social sciences with his 1997 American Sociological Review article, "Rethinking Racism: Toward a Structural Interpretation," where he challenged social analysts to view racial matters from a structural rather than from the sterile prejudice perspective. To date he has published five books, among them "White Supremacy and Racism in the Post-Civil Rights Era" (co-winner of the Oliver Cox Award given by the American Sociological Association), and "Racism Without Racists: Color-Blind Racism and the Persistence of Racial Inequality in the United States."

THE JORDAN JOURNAL is a current events-driven program that is committed to a cross-fertilization of ideas between people of color and the progressive community in the US.
The host, Howard Jordan. describes himself as: "As a self-defined internationalist and First Amendment absolutist, no issue is off the table and I endeavor to give all sides of a given controversy an airing. As such, this is not a Latino interest program but, rather, a general interest program hosted by a Latino activist."

The Jordan Journal is heard Fridays from 3-5 p.m. on WBAI 99.5. To listen to past programs, go to my website www.howardjordan.net. Twitter: @hjordanWBAI.
