Tu Momento 2016
Presidential Election Program
By Mike Nieves
The NiLP Report (May 30, 2016)
This voting cycle, a record-breaking 27.3 million Hispanics will be eligible to vote, but it is estimated that only 48% of eligible Hispanics will vote.  We, at Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network, Inc. (HITN), felt a responsibility to empower the Latino electorate and encourage voter participation through education.
For this reason, HITN launched Tu Momento 2016. Hosted by acclaimed political commentator Gerson Borrero and scheduled to run from April through Election Day, Tu Momento 2016 seeks to encourage voter participation by educating the Spanish speaking community on the complex U.S. electoral system.
Tu Momento 2016 will include twelve informational videos providing a detailed, yet easy to understand overview of the entire U.S. presidential electoral process from candidacy to inauguration day. Eight of the twelve videos are available for viewing today, at .
Here at HITN, we are very proud of Tu Momento 2016.It is the first program of its kind produced in the Spanish language. Shot with Ultra High Definition 4K technology, it includes sophisticated graphics which make it visually appealing and easy to understand.
The 2016 election is going to be an opportunity for Hispanics to demonstrate their strength as a community, by influencing the outcome. Spanish language media has a responsibility to deliver content which informs and empowers this vital audience.
HITN understands and embraces this responsibility.  We developed Tu Momento 2016 so that we can truly make it our moment.
HITN is the only Spanish-language, nonprofit media network in the United States with a mission  to advance the educational, socioeconomic and cultural aspirations of all Latinos, regardless of their political affiliation or country of origin. HITN delivers educational programming to more than 42 million homes nationwide and to over 40% of US Hispanic households in the United States, through our distribution on Direct TV, DISH Network, AT&T U-verse TV, Verizon FiOS TV, Comcast, Charter Communications, Cablevision and a host of smaller distributors.
Our original productions of En Foco and Corriente Cultural highlight the arts and cultural achievements of Hispanics in the USA, and through our programs Destination Casa Blanca and Dialogo, HITN has covered every Presidential election and the impact each election has on Hispanics living in the USA since 2004.
Mike Nieves is President and Chief Executive Officer of HITN. In this position, he oversees all of HITN's operations and aligns the organization's vision, mission and overall strategic direction for HITN's noncommercial television network, educational learning products and Educational Broadband Spectrum (EBS) licenses. Nieves has also served as a a senior political adviser to Democratic elected officials throughout New York State, and as deputy chief of staff to three successive New York City Council Speakers. Among those he has counseled and represented are City Council Speakers Christine Quinn, Gifford Miller and Peter Vallone; City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera; Assemblyman and Bronx Democratic leader José Rivera; Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields; and Assemblyman Nelson Denis. He can be reached at .
