  Whitefish Bay TALKS: 
Rochelle Pennington
"The Endurance: History's Greatest Shipwreck"
Wednesday, January 18, 6:30pm

Author Rochelle Pennington traveled to the countries of England and Scotland to research Sir Ernest Shackleton's epic 1914 travels aboard the ship Endurance with his crew of 27. 

Rochelle will detail the extraordinary acts of determination used by the men to move fearlessly forward as they triumphed over the frozen Antarctic expanse where their lives were threatened daily.

Rochelle's presentation features dozens of authentic documents and stunning photographs taken during the expedition.

  Crafternoons- Crafts for Adults
Beginning on January 13
2nd Friday of every month @ 1:30pm
Learn something new at our new monthly craft program for adults called Crafternoons. Each month we'll try out a different craft. In January we'll be making hedgehogs out of paper back books. In February, we'll be using old books to make folded book art.

Registration is now open for our first program on January 13 on our website.

Join us for an afternoon with Nick Petrie as we
celebrate the release of his new book, Burning Bright, which again features war veteran Peter Ash.

Boswell Books will be on hand selling copies of Nick's books. Read a short synopsis about Burning Bright on our website.

About Nicholas Petrie: Nick Petrie received his MFA in fiction from the University of Washington. He won a Hopwood Award for short fiction while an undergraduate at the University of Michigan, and his story "At the Laundromat" won the 2006 Short Story Contest in the Seattle Review. A husband and father, he has worked as a carpenter, remodeling contractor, and building inspector. He lives in Whitefish Bay.
  Getting to Know Medicare

-Differences between Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage plans

Loose Parts Storytime

Ages 2-5 (Younger siblings welcome but this playtime will have small parts that could be a choking hazard) 
Join us for songs and stories and a special loose parts playtime. What are loose parts? They are open ended materials with endless possibilities for play and exploration.  No registration is required. 
Smart Cookie Club: Frozen Science

Spy Academy

Do you have what it takes to be a spy? Find out at this program! We'll learn about disguises, secret codes and gadgets.
Make With Me; Playdough
Saturday, Janaruy 28, 10am
Ages 1-5 with a Grown-Up
Registration begins January 14
At this program, you and your little one will work together to make a batch of playdough. A playdough playtime will follow, and then you'll get to take your playdough home.

Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library
5th Annual Writing Contest 
January 16 - February 13
Friends of Whitefish Bay Library are holding a writing contest. Submission categories include short story (1,000 words or less), memoirs (1,000 words or less), and poetry (200 words or less). The contest is open to anyone 16 and up. Submissions will be accepted from January 16-February 13 and are limited to one entry per person per category. Cash prizes will be awarded in mid-March. 

Please include a cover page on your entry with the following:  Name, address, email, phone number, and entry date.
Drop off entries in person at the Adult Services Desk or mail them to:

Volunteer Needed: Newsletter Editor for Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library
Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library are looking for a creative individual to serve on the Friends Board of Directors as Newsletter Editor. Responsibilities include producing 3 yearly issues of the newsletter and attending monthly Friends Board of Directors meetings. Time commitment is 5-10 hours per issue plus monthly meetings.
