NEXT WEEK: NIGHTLY LANE CLOSURES ON I-64 WEST TO I-264

Motorists can expect construction-related traffic impacts from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK – Beginning at 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, crews will close two lanes of I-64 west from Indian River Road to I-264 for work to place a construction barrier wall in support of the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project.

  • The double-lane closures will be lifted by 5 a.m. the following morning. The closures will resume nightly through 5 a.m. Friday, March 3, weather permitting.

  • The work will involve re-striping of lanes and the placement of a barrier wall along the shoulder of I-64 west between the Twin Bridges and I-264. Extended dry weather is necessary for the work. Rain could result in its postponement.

  • During the lane closures, crews will leave two travel lanes open at all times. Motorists traveling through the corridor are advised to give themselves extra time and to consider alternate routes if possible.

  • The ramp from I-64 west to I-264 east/Virginia Beach will remain open.

  • Crews will also close the left and right shoulders of I-64 west from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, and Tuesday, Feb. 28, to install signs.

  • After the barrier wall is placed and the nightly closures have finished, I-64 west will retain its regular number of travel lanes. Traffic will be shifted slightly to the left, however, and there will be no right shoulder and no left shoulder along a portion of the interstate while the project is under construction.

  • The blue line over I-64 west in the following map indicates approximately the length of the lane closures:
