2013-2014 Annual School Census

CJL has completed its annual census of enrollment in Jewish schools. The data shows a decline in enrollment which continues the pattern of recent years. 

 

Jewish Wisconsin Initiative for a Sustainable Environment

We are also excited to announce that the Jewish Wisconsin Initiative for a Sustainable Environment (J-WISE) will soon begin! This initiative will combine the study of Jewish text and actions leading to a more sustainable environment. We are expecting that organizations and families from across the Jewish community to be a part of J-WISE.

Educator Recognition Event 

On January 26, 2014 more than 200 people gathered to salute the community's educators.  We have received an overwhelmingly positive reaction to this event.  CJL thanks all those who participated and once again send congratulations to all those who were honored.

Holocaust Education Series -- Children of the Nazis: Coping with the Legacy of the Third Reich will be having its last presentation of the spring on April 6 and features a keynote lecture from Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger titled "A German Life: Against all Odds, Change is Possible."                                      MORE INFORMATION



Arab Labor, the acclaimed television series by Sayed Kashua will be shown in its first two episodes on April 9, an event sponsored by The Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies.                       MORE INFORMATION


Denim Day is an event sponsored by Aurora Health Care and supported by the Milwaukee Jewish community to bring awareness of sexual assault.  Partner with the MJF to participate on April 23.         MORE INFORMATION

Jews Who Rock: A Musical History Tour will be making its appearance at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee from April 27 - August 10.  This unique exhibit looks at influential Jews in rock & roll.        MORE INFORMATION


Free Jewish Film Series
at the Harry and Rose Samson Family JCC features various films with themes like international Jewry and Isreali short films.  This film series runs through May 22.     MORE INFORMATION


Art from the Ashes: Finding Light in the Shadow of the Shoah remains on display on the 4th floor of UWM's Golda Meir Library until May 30.  This exhibit features the art of Helene Fischman, an MFA candidate for UWM's Department of Art & Design, who honors the lives lost in the Shoah with her artwork.    MORE INFORMATION

TRIP: Teacher Recognition & Incentive Program  
Educators develop a professional growth plan based on a self assessment of their own strengths and weaknesses.  Then educators create a professional growth plan.  CJL grants financial assistance to help educators carry out their professional growth plans.  For more information email


 

CSI-Milwaukee 

is CJL's Congregational School Initiative! The program includes: classes for teachers, seminars for educational directors, grants, school assessments, curriculum writing, and consultation.

 

CSI-Milwaukee is a partnership between the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and Congregations Beth Israel Ner Tamid, Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun, Emanu-El of Waukesha, Shalom, and Sinai.
